2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat
Almost immediately after we drove the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, we
began wondering: what's next? Pumping 707 horsepower into the
Challenger seemed so crazy – and so intoxicating – we just assumed that
Dodge would try that trick again.
Rumors swirled about a Charger Hellcat. Frankly it makes even more sense
than the Challenger version. The Charger is a bigger car, and Dodge has
never been shy about dropping monster engines under its hood. Hell (cat),
we've seen Charger mules running around town that appeared to be the super
And finally, it's here. The 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat was revealed
today at a preview event near Detroit, and it will be a centerpiece of the
Chrysler display this weekend at the Woodward Dream Cruise. It goes on sale
early next year. Pricing wasn't announced, but details are expected this
The Charger gets similar Hellcat treatment as the Challenger. Under the
hood is the now familiar 707-hp supercharged V8 displacing 6.2 liters. It
pumps out 650 lb-ft of torque, can sprint to 60 miles per hour in 3.7
seconds and can post a quarter-mile time of 11.0 seconds. The 4,560-pound
Charger is slightly heavier than the Challenger, which allows it to run the
quarter mile 0.2 seconds quicker than the Challenger on stock rubber. The
engine is paired with the same eight-speed automatic transmission offered
in the two-door Hellcat, which is specially designed to handle the
There's plenty of "show" to complement the "go" of the Charger Hellcat, yet
it all has a purpose. The hood scoop and air extractors help cool the V8,
and there's a custom spoiler in back. It all rolls on 20-inch wheels.
"You build cars like this to build brands," said Tim Kuniskis, CEO of Dodge
and SRT. "[There's] not a traditional business case, but there's obviously
a benefit to the brand."
Theoretically, Chrysler can only do so many Hellcat variants, but perhaps
the Jeep Grand Cherokee or the Ram 1500 would be good options for another

How to clean a throttle body and Idle air control valve (iac)
*** PLEASE READ ***
In this video demonstration, I show how to get to, remove, clean, and
replace the throttle body and idle air control motor (aka IAC) on a 4.2l
ford motor. This procedure is the same for any fuel injected vehicle.

The vans require removal of alot more stuff just to access the throttle
A dirty IAC can cause a rough idle. A dirty throttle body can harm
performance and cause rough engine operation.
When the throttle body or iac is removed a new gasket must be used to
properly seal the connection to the intake.
GM idle air motors are generally mounted on the throttle body and can be
cleaned without removal from the throttle body. This means one less gasket
and a lesser chance of creating a vacuum leak.
The ford throttle body had a note on it that said it was not to be cleaned
because the coating on the throttle blade might be damaged. Thats fine for
a new car but that has to be disregarded when working on something that has
some miles on it.

Cleaning Throttle Bodies
MotorWeek's Pat Goss explains how to clean throttle bodies including on
newer cars where there is no mechanical linkage to the gas pedal.
Quick Tip-Throttle Cleaning - EricTheCarGuy
This one goes out to BowlingBallOut who posted a question about a sticky
throttle on his Saturn. It was a great question so I decided to make this
video in response to it. There are many different configurations of
throttle assemblies but for the most part if you have a throttle that is
sticking you might be able to fix it using the procedures in this video. I
am aware you may not able to purchase spray throttle cleaner in some states
now but I'm sure they have some alternative available at your local parts
One very important note here is that if you have a drive by wire throttle
(DBW), then I do NOT recommend this procedure. If you perform this
procedure on a DBW throttle body you may need to have the throttle reset in
order to get your engine to idle or even start. I only recommend this
procedure if you're trying to correct a problem with a sticking throttle.
If you have idle problems, I recommend you check out this article on my

For 2015, the Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine is propelled by the new
supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8. Its 600-plus horsepower rating will be
the highest of any V-8 engine in Chrysler Group's celebrated history. The
all-new V-8 engine can be mated with an upgraded six-speed manual
transmission or a beefy, new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic - the first
such gearbox ever offered in the Dodge Challenger SRT's time-honored

Supercharger technology, delivering the
full brand experience with fresh potency.
The breakthrough supercharged engine features a forged-steel crankshaft
with induction-hardened bearing surfaces. The result is a crank so
well-engineered it can withstand firing pressures of 110 bar (1,595 psi) -
the equivalent of five family sedans standing on each piston, every two
revolutions. And its unique, specially tuned crank damper has been tested
to 13,000 rpm.
High-strength, forged-alloy pistons - developed using advanced telemetry
measurement - are coupled to powder-forged connecting rods with
high-load-capacity bushings and diamond-like-carbon-coated piston pins.
The new supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8 has premium-grade, heat-treated
aluminum-alloy cylinder heads that are optimized for superior thermal
conductivity. And its die-cast aluminum rocker covers are HEMI Orange.
In addition to the supercharged HEMI V-8 in the Challenger SRT Hellcat, the
new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT model also gets a power Boost with upgrades to the 392 HEMI V-8. horsepower climbs to
485 from 470, while peak torque jumps to 475 lb.-ft. from 470 lb.-ft.
The 392 also can be mated with a new TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic or
the proven six-speed manual transmission.
All-new Drive Modes tailor the driving experience to each individual driver
Whether its on-road or on-track, Challenger SRT owners can personalize
their drive experience via the all-new Drive Modes feature. Drive Modes
tailor the driving experience by controlling horsepower, transmission
shift speeds, steering (Challenger SRT only), paddle shifters (automatic
transmission only), traction and suspension. Drive Modes are pre-configured
for Sport, Track and Default settings, while the Custom setting lets the
driver customize the drive experience to their favorite settings.
-Custom - Allows the driver to personalize the vehicle's performance
-Sport - Delivers increased vehicle performance capability over the Default
-Track - Delivers maximum vehicle performance capability on smooth, dry
-Default - Activates automatically when starting the vehicle
The Drive Mode feature is controlled through the Uconnect system and may be
accessed by performing any of the following:

almost 50 percent in the next five years
Dodge is building on tremendous sales momentum as it introduces the new
2015 Challenger. In March of 2014, the Dodge brand reached a significant
milestone, with Challenger and Charger sales combining to sell a total of
more than 1 million units in the United States. The previous generation
Challenger scored five solid years of continuous sales growth. In fact, in
its fifth year in the market, when most cars are on their natural decline
curve, the Dodge Challenger set an all-time sales record in 2013, doubling
sales since its launch in 2009.
All-new Scat Pack 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 gives Challenger best-in-class power
