91 RX-7 S5 Start and Exhaust Sound Check Alt View
ALTERNATE VIEW This video is to show how a well maintained RX-7 idles when cold-started. It will first idle at 3,000 RPM for about 10 seconds to build oil pressure. Then it will drop to 1,500 RPM for about 15 seconds to warm the seals. Then it will drop to 600-750 RPM resting idle after about 30-45 seconds. Car is fitted with a K&N Cold Air Intake with heat shield and a 2¼" High-flow Cat-back dual Exhaust system. The smoke from initially starting it is normal. The engine does this to lubricate the apex seals when the engine is cold.
*The car was pre-warmed prior to recording the video. I would never rev a cold rotary!
