Blowing up a zx2
This motor was out of a junk yard zx2. It was having a hard time starting.
Exhaust gasses were flowing in the
coolant over pressurizing it, and in the end oil was in the coolant as
well. We tried to destroy it using bleach in the oil and reving to 9k
eventually pinning the needle at what I can assume is close to 10k. It
didn't blow, and the car still starts. New motor is in the shop being

This video shows you how to replace the timing belt on a Ford Escort ZX2.
It also shows you how to delete the VCT gear for use of an adjustable gear
and how to replace the front oil seal. Other Zetec engines are similar
enough (from 1998 up, prior engines are similar but don't use VCT) that you
can use this video to do the timing but removal of other parts around it
(like the overflow bottle is in the way on some non-ZX2's) may not be the
same and not all Zetec's have the VCT mechanism. I used to sell this video
on Ebay and I've sold about 200 of them over the years and only once has
anyone complained about it not being useful and he had a Focus. He
apparently didn't read the listing where I said the video was shot on a
ZX2. Anyway, I'm sure you'll find this video helpful and please don't

You should also note that the Zetec engine in the ZX2, Contour, Mystique,
Cougar, Escape, and Focus (not SVT) are non-interference despite what a
mechanic or even a Ford dealer might tell you. I even show in the video
why it is this way and prove it by cranking my engine over with the belt
off and the cams locked.

Had a better launch even though i bogged it a little bit... car pulls
really well in 1st in 2nd... But HORRIBLE in 3rd... don't know why
So i thought i raced pretty well but my times were absolutely horibble. I
had 3 runs... I have an S/R with obviously iceman intake with K&N filter,
2.5" Borla Exhaust, ZXtuner Hotshot
header, and Powders UDP... With all this i was hoping to break 15.0 but
would've been happy with 15.0

ANy ideas on what could help me a little bit? i need to check my plugs and
wires... but anything else that anyone could think of that might improve my
time? I have a fully built motor and turbo just need the accessories... but i want to
see how fast i can get this thing with bolt ons first...
How To Change Temperature Switch And Thermostat 1998 Ford Escort ZX2
This is a DIY video showing how to fix a temperature gauge that wont read
in a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2, In the video i change the temperature switch and
replace the thermostat. The cause was originally believed to be the
temperature sending unit on top of the thermostat housing but after
replacing that it made no change so i decided to try the temperature switch
underneath the thermostat housing and that seemed to do the trick. The car
was running and no matter how long or how warm it got the gauge never
changed and always read below cold. I couldn't find any DIY's or youtube
videos or forums about how to change the temperature switch so i decided to
try something and turns out it worked for me, hope this is helpful, i
figure i saved about six or seven hundred dollars by doing this myself it
cost about sixty for all the parts and only took about an hour if that
