Since I had this RL in my shop that had a check engine light AND an ABS light I thought it was a perfect opportunity to put this video together. I get asked all the time about my 'special tool' and it's really nothing more than a Honda 2 pin connector with the input wires soldered together. These connectors might be harder to find than you think but if you run across a junk honda and one of these is on the harness grab it. Even if you don't have the tool a paper clip or piece of wire will do the exact same thing so don't sweat it if you don't have the tool because shorting the connector is all you need to do. Here is my obd0-obd1 conversion on my 90 Honda civic EX with a b20Vtec swap.





Honda Civic Rebirth
My 1991 Honda Civic hatchback rebuild. The car was in really bad shape and desperately needed TLC, so I went ahead and restored her from scratch with the help of a few buddies who run a shop. The whole process took about 9 months, hence 'The Rebirth' title which seems to go along well like it's a new born baby. The motor is B16A with: CTR pistons, full Omni valvetrain, CAT cams, ITR IM, Mild P&P head, H22A injectors, OBD1 converted, and stock B16A header. The Exhaust is Apexi WS2. The actual numbers at the dynapack are pretty embarrassing (I was just trying to get her to run efficiently for the emissions test, which she passed no problem). I have no idea what this motor is capable of. I'll post more vids once she's fully tuned. Props to Nick at Teknotik for the tuning. Honda-Tech: kim_2_da_chee *Parts alone for this project costed about $5K to 6K. I did the labor with the help of my buddies and bodywork was done by an affiliate. So I spent roughly $10K in total. I plan to keep this car forever so I don't see 10K as much money at all.

P0401 EGR Valve Port Cleaning
This is my DIY for clearing the CEL code P0401 (EGR Insufficient Flow) on a 98 Honda Prelude. In cars with OBD2 if the EGR valve is restricted by carbon deposits it will detect that and throw a CEL. To get rid of that CEL you must clean out the carbon to allow flow. After combustion occurs within the engine it creates Exhaust. Gas from the Exhaust straight from the engine is very bad for the air. The EGR valve recaptures that Exhaust and runs it through the combustion process again, which lowers the temperature of the fumes (Exhaust gas) and lowers the amount of pollution exiting into the atmosphere. If you don't fix it you won't pass SMOG in California. You may experience rough idling and poor acceleration. Tips: Get your "EGR port plugs" from Honda. They will have it. Removing the injectors are important to allow clearance to the port plugs. When you pull out the injectors you might as well clean them since they are out. Slide hammers make pulling the port plugs out easily. Drill with a bit the size of your tap. Drilling halfway through the port plug to should be enough distance to fully grab the port with the slide hammer. If after you clean your ports and valve the CEL has not been cleared, you EGR valve maybe faulty and needs to be replaced.
