How To Replace An Air Conditioner Compressor - GM Chevy SIlverado 5.7 5.0

A vehicle heating and ventilation air conditioning system (HVAC) is important when it comes to comfort. There are many possibilities that would cause the HVAC system not to work. Our video concentrates on a cooling issue and the diagnostics. Its a very common issues especially when a vehicle has very high mileage or age. This repair guides you through the diagnostic steps. This fix requires special equipment that only a trained professional should operate. Our video serves the purpose of educating you about ac compressor replacement so don't try this on your own. The automobile consist of: Powertrain: 1. Engine: • Fuel System: Purpose is to deliver fuel to the engine. It consists of the fuel tank, pump, gauge/sensor, filter, pressure regulator and injectors. • Air Intake System: Purpose is to clean and direct outside air into the engine. It consist of air filter, ducts, air plenum and intake manifold. • Exhaust System: Purpose is to direct Exhaust gasses out of combustion out of engine. It consists of the Exhaust manifold, converters, pipes and mufflers. • Cooling System: Purpose is to remove excess heat from the engine. It consists of water pump, hoses, radiator, thermostat, cooling fan and coolant recovery tank. Also the oil system serves as a cooling system as well as a lubricating system. It consist of oil pump, pan, filter and cooler. Drivetrain: 1. Clutch: Purpose is to connect the engine and transmission together. It consists of clutch drive disc, driven disc, release bearing, clutch fork, cable, slave cylinder, master cylinder. There are three types of clutch systems: mechanical, cable and hydraulic. 2. Transmission: Purpose is to match engine speed to road speed. Two types used are manual or automatic. These consist of gears, linkages, cables and converters for automatics. A manual is connected to the clutch by a flywheel and automatic by a flexplate. 3. Driveshaft: Purpose is to connect the transmission to the rear axle. It consists of a slip yoke, shaft and universal joints. 4. Rear axle differential: Purpose is to change the angle of motion from engine to the wheels. It also divides torque between the wheels. It consists of a ring and pinion gear, carrier, bearings, crush sleeve and axle shafts. 5. Wheels/Tires: Purpose is to provide traction to the road as well as carry the weight of the vehicle. Vehicle Control Systems: 1. Brakes: Purpose is to slow and stop the vehicle. It consists of master cylinder, brake Booster (vacuum or hydraulic), calipers, drums, pads and rotors. 2. Steering: Purpose is to direct vehicle in the required direction. Consists of steering gear (rack & pinion), steering wheel, column, inner/outer tie rods, pump, reservoir, hoses and pipes. 3. Suspension: Purpose is to provide stability and handling while also providing comfort to the ride. Consists of shocks, struts, sway bars, end links, springs, trailing arms and bushings. Comfort System: 1: Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC): Heats and cools interior air to passenger comfort. Also circulates outside and inside air. • Air Conditioning: Consist of condenser, compressor, accumulator (receiver/dryer) orifice, expansion valve, hoses, evaporator, controls, actuators and modules. • Heating: Consists of heater core, valves, hoses and switches. Electrical Systems: 1. Power Generation: Creates electrical power to run all the electrical systems. Consists of the alternator. 2. Power storage: Stores unused power to start the car and supply voltage to the alternator to create more electricity. • Both systems consist of wiring, harnesses, fuse, relays and modules.

DIY Auto: Intermittant A/C. Compressor clutch diagnosis on a 1990 Jeep Cherokee.
This apparently is a common problem with these A/C compressors. Symptoms are A/C works when things are cold. When things warm up, the clutch fails to engage. I've had this jeep for most of its life and this has always been a problem. In the early stages, turning the engine off/on would get it to work. Then moving the dash control to vent and back would get things going. Now, a mallet to the compressor housing engages the clutch but only briefly. Not a solution but proof of where the problem lies. I by no means am a professional mechanic but I thought by making this video it would assist other non-professionals help diagnose their intermittent A/C cooling problem. How To Recharge and Diagnose Automobile Air Conditioning
In this video we recovered, vacuumed and charged the Freon in this 04 Chevrolet Impala. The biggest factor in charging and or diagnosing any A/C system is being able to read gauges. It does not matter if you are using stand alone gauges or an expensive A/C machine, as long as you can read the gauges you can properly diagnose any A/C system. In this video we under charged and over charged the system to give you an idea of how the gauges would be affected. A/c over all is pretty simple once you understand the basics. There is a low side and a high side. There has to be a difference between the two for the system to cool properly. There are static pressures taken when the system is not in operation and dynamic pressures taken when the system is in operation. If the static pressures are equal to the ambient temperature you know the system is charged or close to charged. Reading the dynamic pressures is a little more challenging. If the low pressure is high while the system is in operation this usually eludes to a restriction. A restriction typically comes from the orifice or the expansion valve. Where ever the metering device is, this is where to check for a restriction first. The other scenario is when the high pressure is too low. This typically indicates a weak or failing compressor. The last thing i want to mention is about a properly charged and operating system. If the high side needle on a properly operating system bounces, even a little, this could indicate also a failing compressor. It will work and cool, but it shows signs that the compressor might give problems in the future.
