A Superb Original Ford Cortina Mk5 1600L with an Incredible 23,281 Miles from New - SOLD!
**SIMILAR CLASSIC CARS ALWAYS REQUIRED**
A superb original Ford Cortina Mk5 1600L with an incredible 23,281 miles
All steel welded integral construction, safety glass all round, laminated
windscreen, louvered radiator grill, bright drip-rail, windshield and rear
window inserts, anti-burst locks, bright bumpers, bodyside tape stripe,
perforated headlining, lockable glovebox, 'hangdown' centre console, cigar
lighter, Ford push button radio, boot mat, instrument illumination control,
electric screen wash. Dealer fitted options; Ford mud flaps.
This beautiful Mk5 1600L, the final incarnation of Ford's iconic Cortina is
finished in original Corsican Blue (code L0). The factory paint has a
glorious deep uniform shine owing to the remarkably low miles covered and
the truly cosseted ownership. All factory panels are straight with even
gaps and free from corrosion, and the underside is structurally perfect
having been protected from new, confirmed by the original Bodyshield window
sticker. Only very minor paint lift to the seams either side of the front
lower valance can been seen upon very close scrutiny and tiny hairline
scratches to the paintwork in some areas have remained untreated in order
to retain the honest unrestored nature of this fantastic example. All trim
sections, glass, lights and badges are pristine and the original supplying
dealer number plates, tax disc holder and rear screen sticker remain. Now
representing a very rare sight, this truly special Ford Cortina has
remained exactly as Ford intended and is certain to delight the avid blue
A factory fresh 1980's Ford interior, even down to the factory build
stickers still attached to the seat bases! The term 'time warp' can often
be used loosely, but upon climbing into this spacious Cortina cabin it's
certainly justified. The perfect Savannah Blue (code F1) fabric seats are
completely free from wear or damage commensurate of a car with such few
miles covered. The spotless colour keyed carpets, matching door cards and
perforated headlining firmly uphold the showroom fresh appeal. All
switchgear and functions operate exactly as intended and are housed in a
perfect dashboard with no cracks or sun related distortion whatsoever. A
wonderfully original classic Ford interior, worthy of the guaranteed praise
and accolade it receives.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Ford's time tested and trustworthy 1600 OHC Standard unit needs little
introduction. With a power output of 73bhp, a top speed of 94mph and a
0-60 time of 12.7 seconds allow the car to match the pace of modern traffic
with ease. The engine is whisper quiet and wonderfully smooth having
benefited from a complete program of recommissioning in May 2014 including
a complete service and timing belt with a supporting invoice for peace of
mind. The four speed all synchromesh manual gearbox feels light with a
positive clutch action and relaxed motoring is effortless.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five styled steel wheels with 13 x 4.5in rims are factory original and
remain shod with the original Dunlop SP4 165/SR13 tyres. The tyres have
excellent tread remaining and the rubber is free from significant
deterioration, but whilst the factory fitted tyres retain absolute
originality it would be prudent due to age to fit new items if the vehicle
is to be put into regular use. The wheel rims are free from damage and
minor paint deterioration remains untreated in order to preserve the
unrestored acclaim. Recently overhauled hydraulic dual line brakes with
servo assistance offer ample stopping power and complete assurance.
Supplied new by Ford Main Dealer A.E. Chatfield Ltd of Stoke on Trent and
first registered on 23rd April 1980, this stunning Ford Cortina has had
just two former keepers from new. The first and second registered keepers
being husband and wife Mr and Mrs Windsor. The vehicle was registered new
in Mr Windsor's name until being transferred to Mrs Windsor upon his
passing in February 1991. Mrs Windsor had cherished the car remarkably
until 2014 when she herself passed away. The previous keeper Mr David
Eastwood an avid Cortina fan and Area Representative for the Ford Cortina
Owners Club heard about the car and took ownership in order to ensure its
safe future. This low mileage delight sat proudly aside his Mk5 2.3 Ghia
and Mk3 Saloon, and Mr Eastwood's enthusiasm for the Cortina can be seen on
the following link; http://www.fordday.co.uk/a-word-from-dave/
A large collection of MOT certificates in the history file enable the
reader to fully track the 23,281 miles covered and a collection of previous
maintenance invoices are present. All original handbooks, operating guides
and the Ford service booklet remain with the car. There is even a
photograph dated April 1983 of the car sat with a brand new Austin Mini
MOT April 2015, HPI Clear, Approved Used Car Check Certificate.
