Pintos shoebox ford, crumaro, scout, dead hippie van, + more... --- Nothing beats the satisfaction of chasing down and pulling old cars from their resting spots. There is a thrill in the hunt, and a joy in discovering a car that nobody else knows about. These are the cars that have been parked for whatever unknown reason ; a blown tranny, discarded in disgust, set aside for later. Many cars are sentenced to a particular spot with no release date in mind. They all have a story to tell, and one has to wonder who fell in love with the vehicle first and plunked down all their hard earned cash on the beast. Cracking open the door is like entering a ancient tomb, with the rusty hinges announcing your arrival. Every old car has it's own unique smell, some brands even possessing their own odors. Pop the hood next. Engine bays come in 3 types, complete, empty, and partially disassembled. A complete bay is the ultimate goal, for that means there is a small chance that the car might still run. An empty bay puts the car towards parts-car status, or full swap/update for sure. A half complete mill is the worst situation possible. One must play detective and figure out what went wrong and where all the missing parts currently reside. Pop the trunk, and it's time to go treasure hunting. The trunk can hold anything from missing parts and nos trim, to possums and many other shocking items forgotten over time. The adventures of moving a car that has not moved in decades is immediately present. Brakes stick, bearings freeze, tires are square and downright ignorant, and every immobile wreck instantly gains 1 ton over its still-mobile twin. Might be the 1800 pounds of old concrete in the trunk, the one the owner conveniently "lost" the keys for. Many times there is things in the way that were not present when the car was parked 45 years ago. Naturally, not all these cars go into the garage and come out show queens. Some get fixed, few get finished, and most get slated for parts service. The ones that do not meet one persons standards get pawned off on fresh hunters with less money and more ambition. Maybe the car will help out to get another twin out of the weeds also and back on the road. But one thing is for certain, once the derelict wreck is loaded, the standard question always asked is "Do you know of any more old cars around here?" 5th Scale BurnOut Time! FG Dragster Test Runs
Finally, I'm taking my FG Dragster out for a testrun. The dragster is powered by a BZM 28.5 Torque Tuned engine which I dropped in a FG Sportsline 2WD. I've converted my Sportsline chassis to a 1970's Dodge Challenger, with lots of custom parts. In the video series you will be able to follow this build from the very start, to the point where it will finally start burning some rubber! The custom servo setup works great, the BZM has massive torque, and I love running this scaled down muscle car! A few alterations will be made in the future, such as a bit thicker diff oil, and perhaps a different clutch to make it engage a bit more aggressively. For a first run, I was more than satisfied and this ride is everything I hoped it to be. For more information about the FG Sportsline, visit the FG Modellsport webstore: https://www.fg-onlineshop.de/ For more information about HemiStorm Products feel free to join us on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/HemiStorm-Products/23658549638024 1 To visit the HemiStorm website and have a look at the products we develop for largescale RC cars, click the following link: http://www.hemistorm.com/ For more information about BZM Micro engines, and the full range of additional products and gear, check out the following link: http://bzm-micro.com/ When you install your electronics in your gas powered car, always remember to use a killswitch. Killer RC has a great range of products that assist you in interrupting the ignition of the car and turning the engine off in case of emergency. Safety first, for yourself and those around you. Drag Racer FG Muscle Car - Combining Diecast and RC
I get started on my next project, another largescale onroad car. It's an FG Sportsline 2WD 530. This car is going to be turned into a 1970 Dodge Challenger! In order to get the look I want, I decided to mix some diecast in with the RC. I use a diecast supercharged V8 engine, that you can find for anywhere between 30 and 40 dollars, to start my build with. The diecast engine will be mounted over the front shock tower, covering up some of the brake mechanics. I improvise the mounting of the piece, and tell you what kind of tools I used and issues I ran into. The engine will be looks only, the powerplant of the car will be replaced with a special, more powerful unit during the build. This build is going to have a ton of special features, a few of them rather unique, and I will take you through the whole build process step by step so if you want to, you can follow along. Make sure to subscribe to see what the 2WD will turn into, so far I can reveal this much: it will pach a true punch, will represent an icon of it's era, and will be unlike any RC you have ever seen before! For more information about the FG Sportsline, visit the FG Modellsport webstore: https://www.fg-onlineshop.de/ To see more pictures of the diecast engine I used for this build, check this link: http://libertyclassics.com/ And to purchase one, or have a look at ton of diecast models, visit Tom's site: http://www.toms.nl/ For more information about HemiStorm Products feel free to join us on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/HemiStorm-Products/23658549638024 1 To visit the HemiStorm website and have a look at the products we develop for largescale RC cars, click the following link: http://www.hemistorm.com/ Intro music purchased at Productiontrax.com License Option B: Commercial, for-profit, distribution, or broadcast, all Packages, and Photos
