2010 Challenger Exhaust Comparison
In this video, you will hear a 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T with the 5.7L Hemi
V8 with two different Exhaust systems
In the first part, it's the stock Exhaust with a Mopar Cold air Intake and
Diablosport Predator tune set to the Perf.91 CAI tune. Keep in mind, this
stock Exhaust is already past it's
break-in period of ~1500 miles, it was at about 2000 so it was fully broken
In the second part of this video you will hear the same car, with the same
intake and same Diablosport tune but with the following added:
JBA Short Tube Headers
JBA High Flow Mid-pipes (2.5" diameter)
Magnaflow Custom built Exhaust with NO
resonators (this is not one of the kits you buy directly, this was built by
the muffler shop I took it to using all Magnaflow pipes and such and cost
The new system sounds great. Has a pretty deep throaty rumble to it. There
is drone, but It's not terrible, I think in time I will actually get used
to it. The system could stand to be louder and have a little less drone,
but other than that, it's great. Added a pretty good amount of power as
well as you can almost always chirp the tires going into second gear now
where as before you could only do it on a lucky occasion.
It has a very clean sound and runs smooth. On the freeway the drone isn't
very bad at all, only when you start to accelerate and get it around 3000

Just wanted to add some more personal input now that we have had the system
on for a few weeks.
I mentioned the drone, yes, there is drone, wont deny it. BUT, it's not bad
at all. We have gone on a couple 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hour cruises and it hasn't
bothered us at all. Freeway speeds it's fine, not very bothersome. The only
time it really gets to me at all, is a somewhat slow acceleration, the
first 2-3 gears can put some decent pressure on your ears. But it's easily
avoidable by accelerating slower or faster.
I mentioned that it could be louder. I may have been wrong! This thing is
pretty dang loud! In fact, we compared our system to a friends Corsa
Extreme system (also a 2010 automatic R/T). Guess what, OURS IS LOUDER THAN
THE CORSA EXTREME. At WOT, it's very close, and the Corsa may actually have
a bit more sound. BUT, at start-up, idle, and cruising, the Magnaflow IS
Sorry it's taking so long to get an Interior video, I haven't had to many
chances to get the car away from the old man long enough to bother grabbing
the video camera lol. But it WILL come... Eventually. haha

Jay Leno's 1970 Challenger
Part of the success of the initial offering of the Challenger (it outsold
all pony cars that year except leaders Mustang and Camaro) was the multitude of
engine options available for the car. 1970 and 1971 would prove to be the
only two years of real performance for the car, as tougher emission
standards would require Dodge to take away many performance options by
1972. But in 1971, Challenger buyers could choose from nine different
engine options. In fact the only engine Dodge offered that was not
available for the Challenger that year was the smallest available, a 198
CID slant six-cylinder.
Instead, the standard engine for base model Challengers was a 225 CID slant
six that produced 145 horsepower. This could be
upgraded to a 318 CID V8 rated at 230 horsepower for $102 or a 275
horsepower 340 V8.
Performance driven R/T (Road/Track) models came standard with a 4-barrel
383 CID V8 that produced 335 horsepower (a 2-barrel
version of this engine also was available as an option for the base
models). All Challenger models also could upgrade to two versions of a 440
CID V8, one the "Magnum" producing 375 horsepower and one the
"Six-Pack" producing 390 horsepower. Topping them all
was the 426 Street Hemi, which was rated at 425 horsepower.
By 1970, it was clear that while pony car fans desired power, many did not
want to sacrifice luxury to fulfill their performance needs. The Firebird
introduced its Espirit luxury model in 1970, and the Mustang Grande had first appeared in
1969. Dodge offered Special Edition trim for those that wanted to make
their Challenger a little more luxurious. Appropriately branded the SE trim
package, Dodge marketed the luxury models as "the little limousine." The
package could be added to both the base and R/T models, and included a
vinyl roof, "honest-to-goodness real leather facings on the seats," and an
overhead console with door, fuel and seatbelt warning lights.

It happens deep in the Nevada desert, just past Austin. On a long, straight
section of road with nothing to lose, our friends in the white 1970 Dodge
Challenger R/T finally put the hammer down. At once, the rawness and purity
of Kowalski's ride pulverizes the well-insulated interior of our 2008 Dodge
Challenger SRT8, shredding the peace inside the modern car's cockpit with
the same brute force Kowalski used to pierce a hole in the cool desert air
38 years ago. Even with my right foot buried, I see nothing but taillights
until they disappear into the desert.
In these few brief seconds, the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is clearly
defined by its soft edges and quiet Exhaust. Manufacturers don't let us feel cars
raw and unfiltered anymore. Hammering down a desert road with a thin-rimmed
steering wheel and pistol-grip shifter — that's raw. Four hundred and
forty cubic inches and a four-speed — that's raw. Powerslides unhampered
by electronic intervention — that's raw.
In 1970, when Kowalski drove this very road — U.S. Highway 50 through
Nevada — he felt it. And it was raw.
