VW Jetta 'Getta' HY35 Engine Blows and Fire Starts!
My friends 2002 Jetta (2.0 auto) that was swapped with a 1.8t/manual swap,
custom intake manifold and custom turbo
kit with a Holset hy35, ls2 coils, unitronic ECU, digital climate control
swap, audi tt front spindles, clutch masters fh400 clutch setup and audi tt
awd 6speed tranny (will be converted to awd this year).
The stock rods we know were the weak point but it didn't bother us because
we have a fully built motor to go into it. During the video we were having
issues with controlling the Boost
and hitting 2.29-3.3 bars of Boost... and well you'll see the result. The
reason for the fire was a nylon tube that melted and covered the turbo area in oil, which burnt the shifter cables
and some wires. No big loss, 150 dollars in parts and a crazy drive. Will
be back soon with over 550whp ;)
The car was fine we were 1/8 of a mile from the house before it caught
fire. Towed it home and found that the number 2 rod went threw the block
RIP stock 1.8t

when setting up the engine map. Running Holset HX35 turbo, 1260cc Lucas injectors, JE pistons
(81.5mm), LGspeed rods, crappy GLT-cams, Sachs 707 clutch with sinter disc,
ethanol, 2x255 pumps, MSD ignition, Quaife LSD, VEMS (Versatile Engine
Management Systems) and running quite low Boost ~22psi (1.5bar), and a lot more stuff

R-Tech 1.8T fully throttle WOT gear change anti turbo lag mapping
R-Tech Golf GTI 1.8T AUM Me7.5 ecu, rolling road session testing new WOT
gear shift mapping, which allows the drive to change up and down the gear
box without lifting the throttle, very smooth and quick changed without
grinding. A soon as the clutch is pressed the ecu cuts back the engine load
and changes the timing. We have also found that if we keep the fuel going
in and change the timing map we can get a simlar affect to anti turbo lag, we just need more time to work on this
So far our remap can offer:
2 step or 3 step launch control with traction control
R-Techs Unique Direct-DBW throttle mapping, to give a feel of a throttle
Brake and Boost, left foot braking
which allow the drive to brake and keep the turbo fully loaded, ideal for rolling starts, and
And now WOT gear shift mapping.
Next project: To see if we can refine the anti lag turbo mapping.
