440 Dodge Camshaft Drive Fail Part2
More about the camshaft drive failure. Most of the valves in the engine
ended up kissing the pistons! We replaced 4 valves, since gasoline leaked
out of them when we poured a little into each port in the head to test them
in one respect we were very lucky that only 2 pushrods were bent, and that
the engine didn't grenade. We have decided to buy a 3 Bolt camshaft drive
set up, instead of the single bolt one that didn't work out for us here.
It is strange, the single bolt set up works fine for regular use, as in a
normal passenger car, I have a 440 with 168,000 miles on it, from a 68
Imperial, and it had no problems. But in a high perf. quick revving engine
such as this one, it died with less than 300 miles of use!
Therefore, if you are building a Hi perf. Big Block Dodge, pay a little
extra, and get the 3 Bolt type camshaft drive!
I know "440 Source" sells the 3 bolt cams, the sprocket and chain are
availible a lot of places.
UTE 496 First Burnout
MY Mopar 383 - 496 440 source stroker engine.
I changed the jets and put a smaller power valve in. It has stopped the
flooding and seems to drive much better. Of course I did it at home, as I
dont condone this sort of thing on the street. Go Drag racing at willowbank

In case anyone is curious, yes, I've owned tons of Mopar products! There
is a SRT4 in my driveway right now. I've had Coronet R/T's, Challenger RT,
Demon's, 300's, SRT8's, I love em all! And I have no problem with other
cool Musclecars. I even own a Buick with a V6 that is fairly
quick......However....I loves me Mother Mopar!
I'm back in the old school! I have a "NEW" 70 Coronet R/T! Burnt
Orange/White interior numbers matching, bla bla bla bla!!! Will post pics
of it in my new Mopar song. Yeah, I'm doing another one, yeah I'm corny!
Actually 2 tunes. One, I penned back in the mid 80's called Red Light. It
was about my 69 R/T.
