Replacing a BMW Self-adjusting Clutch & Dual-mass Flywheel Part 1 of 2
www.bavauto.com -- In this How-To DIY video series (Part-1 and Part-2) we
will be replacing a typical BMW clutch and flywheel. For more details on
this DIY, see our Tech Blog at www.blog.bavauto.com/go/clutchrepair .
These videos show the full removal, replacement and reassembly of the
self-adjusting clutch (SAC) and dual-mass flywheel, special instructions
that MUST be followed in the installation of the self-adjusting clutch,
failure modes of the dual-mass flywheel and finally, installation of the
UUC lightweight flywheel and performance clutch. We will also install the
UUC Short Shift Kit and DSSR. See the separate DIY video for the shifter
install at www.blog.bavauto.com/go/shortshift . All of the parts shown in
this DIY series are available at Bavarian Autosport. Visit our online
store at www.bavauto.com or call or knowledgeable agents at 800-535-2002.

Trans & Clutch 1 - Remove Transmission
This is the first in a multi-video series regarding clutch tech. The
clutch itself is a simple mechanism, but it's buried deep in the engine, so
you can't just cover the clutch. First, you have to cover how to remove
the transmission to get to it.
This project started off strange, got kind-of not-good, and then took a
turn for the worst. The typical clutch job is not as difficult as the next
video will display, but it's good this happened to me because I film this
kind of crap. If for some asinine reason you encounter the kind of failure
I experienced, you'll know what to do after the next video. Clutch
assembly will be covered in a third video.
About the car:
You saw the other assembly video. You know when I put this thing together.
You know it doesn't come out to play when it's cloudy. I've had it on the
road less than an earl change. Freshly rebuilt TRE Stage 2.5 trans with a
brand new ACT 2600 and a sprung 6-puck (MB1-XTG6) on a stock flywheel.
This is Transmission #4.
Performance Clutch - Explained
What is a performance clutch? Clutch kit? How does a performance clutch
work? A performance clutch basically involves three changes over
traditional organic clutches. This video features a Yonaka performance
clutch kit. A performance clutch has a higher clamping force on the
pressure plate (via the diaphragm spring). Performance clutches use
different materials which can absorb less heat and that don't lose
performance at higher temperatures. Finally, performance clutches use a
"puck" design, 3 puck, 4 puck, 6 puck, which increase the pressure on the
friction material, to prevent slip.

How to Rebuild a Turbo - Part 1 of 2
Rebuilding a td05h 16g turbo. This
process can be applied to many journal bearing turbochargers. :) It definitely comes in handy to
know how to do this when you are in this type of hobby.
4/25/12: Small explanation on the balancing of the rotating assembly since
I get so many comments regarding it. This particular turbocharger, td05h, has its rotating assembly
components balanced separately. This means each individual part (compressor
wheel, turbine wheel/shaft) gets balanced separately. This allows for easy
interchangeability of parts in case they need replacing. This is why I am
able to install a td05 20g wheel on this turbo without having to balance the entire
rotating assembly. THIS IS NOT THE CASE FOR ALL turboS OUT THERE. You need to research whether
your specific turbo (if it's not td05h)
was balanced as an assembly or "component balanced" like I explained above.
I hope this information helps. Good luck in your projects. Stay Boostin'
