[HD] 1990 Subaru Loyale -- My Second Car
So basically this is a walkaround and overview of my new car, a red 1990
Subaru Loyale wagon. My old car, the 1981 Subaru GL wagon, died from a
cracked block or head and was towed away on Easter, 2012. A week after, I
picked this up. When I bought it, it had three main problems. The first was
the battery was dead from sitting for a couple months. Fixed this because I
had a new battery installed in my old car a couple months before it died,
and I just transferred it over. The second problem was the tires would go
flat within a day or two. Fixed this by buying a set of four wheels/tires
off the Ultimate Subaru Message Board for $30, swapped them out, and sold
my set for $20 on the message board. The third and final problem is the
passenger axle. Both the inner and outer boots are torn, and the actual
axle is bad. Went to the Pick-N-Pull to get an axle, but I didn't have the
right tools. Instead, I got two new headlights (the originals were yellowed
and not bright), a new clock, two speakers, a bunch of fuses, and a couple
headlight bulbs. This car is better than my old one because it's go 90 horsepower (versus
73), runs better, has five gears, and is fuel injected. It's also got a
softer suspension for a better ride. Still has on-demand 4WD, so that's
useful. It's just overall a better car. I'm glad I got it. Be looking
forward to dashcam videos!!
Subarus are Indestructible
My new videos will be posted on my new account;
This 4wd Subaru gets some extreme abuse and still it runs. From being
submerged to jumping and rolling this car takes it all and just keeps
running. They don't make them like this anymore.
Continuing our review of reliable vehicles, the 1993 Subaru Loyale is a
low-cost, capable option. This one was manufactured before the series was
plagued by head gasket leaks and has accumulated over 220,000 miles in the
near constant moisture of the Pacific Northwest.
As a bonus, a demonstration of an alternative use for the ubiquitous ice

[HD] '90 Subaru Loyale Shift Linkage Replacement
Sorry for the black screen at the end. Random rendering glitch, I assume.
My shifter in my car used to suck. It was really hard to find fifth and
reverse, first and second gear looked like third and fourth, and there was
lots of play in the shifter when in gear. The answer? My shifter bushings
were shot. I went to the junkyard and just took the entire shift linkage
out of a car with good bushings. Definitely was worth it, since my shifter
feels great now.

300+ HP Subaru Loyale Wagon
A 1990 Subaru Loyale wagon with a tuned up EJ255 from a 2007 WRX.
Drivetrain sourced from a Subaru XT.
The bad part is that this engine was only in the car temporarily. It was
soon installed into a much newer Subaru, which means no more videos. I
really wish I had been able to get more footage!
This car belonged to my Subaru enthusiast buddy, I film many different
vehicles as well as my own.
[HD] '90 Subaru Loyale Offroading (May 23, 2013)
Nothing major. Just some light offroading that is well within the
capabilities of the car. I never even switched into 4WD Hi, let alone 4WD
Lo. Entire video was done in FWD. I didn't want to do anything major, since
my engine is still relatively new to my car. Plus, without a lift kit,
ground clearance is definitely an issue for major offroading.
Anyways, just driving through the woods in my Soob. Nice to be in the
Subaru's natural habitat. :P I would've gone much further on the trail, but
as I started climbing in elevation, I reached some snow. Snow is nothing
for the Subaru, but again, ground clearance is an issue. Snow is
unpredictable and I can get high-centered if I'm not careful. By the time I
got to the snow, I was far from civilization. Without another person in
another car, I didn't feel comfortable continuing by myself. Headed back,
and good thing because I lost one fog light along the way. Was able to
retrieve the light and hook it back up. :P
Location is Tinkham RD, east of North Bend, WA. Exit 42 off of I-90.
Definitely a great spot, from what I can tell. First time being there, and
I'll definitely go back soon!
