Nissan Motor Company, has what is called Nissan Ecology Orientated Variable
Valve Lift and Timing. The Neo VVL engine was developed by Nissan around
1997. It saw limited release on some models. This in essence is a system
similar to the Honda VTEC valve lift system, but is also has variable valve
timing. This means that on a given rotational range, the engine will change
the lift and timing, on the intake and Exhaust cam independently. The NEO VVL engine
has a camshaft with two different cam lobe profiles. When one cam profile
is no longer needed or after 5000 RPM, the lift profile changes, and allows
the engine to keep putting out power all the way to the redline. Neo VVL
engines can generally rev to around 8200 RPM in stock form. This in effect
has the best of both worlds, a great idle response and high RPM power.
The Neo VVL engine changes the cam profiles independently. The Intake cam
changes first, and then the Exhaust
camshaft thereafter. Other manufactures, like Honda's V-Tec and Toyota's
VVTi switch both cams together. The end result is greater power generation
on the smooth side.
The Nissan Neo VVL uses two separate camshaft profiles. One profile works
best at low RPMs, while the other is meant for higher engine revolutions.

I wanted to get a baseline Dyno run in before installing my
built motor. This is a completely stock SR20DET with a larger turbo, injectors and supporting mods. Stock cams,
stock head gasket, everything inside is OEM. It also has a very poor tune,
one other reason why it has low numbers. However, I did manage to run an
11.95 @ 114 MPH with this setup so far...

611rwhp on a MustangDyno (not the Dynojet "feel good" numbers).
Mods are Full T4 T67 turbo, carillo
rods, cp pistons, tons of fuel, AEM, 3.5" turboback, 96lb hour injectors, Twin Walbro 255lph
pumps, RPS turbomax clutch (6puck), ACT
flywheel, and others of course.
