Racing my Mustang at Lions dragstrip in Willmington (Long Beach) California in 1967. Taken with a 8mm film home movie camera. Pardon for the poor quality but it is enjoyable because of the vintage. No sound from a 8mm film camera back then.
Lions Drag Strip incredible Grand Premier accidents 1972
Season opening Grand Premier at Lions Drag Strip in Janaury 1972 marked the
return of NHRA sanction to the world famous Wilmington/Long Beach, CA
racetrack. Incredible clip is from Part 1 (of 3 part) video documentary
"Lions - The Greatest Drag Strip", and shows the unusual amount of
accidents that took place, thanks to veteran lensman Paul Sadler and Dave
Kerr. Lions would close after its 17-year run just eleven months later.
San Fernando Raceway 1967 8 mm film (very poor quality)
Old home movie on 8mm film recording my Mustang and other cars racing at the
old San Fernando Raceway in San Fernando California circa 1967.
Sorry, no sound because the old 8mm film home movies were silent. Also the
quality is very poor because it did not transfer well to video. But it is
Santa Pod Raceway BHRA Meeting Whitsun 1966. Vintage dragsters having fun!
An historically important film of one of the earliest meetings at this
British drag strip. The cars look a bit tame by today's standards but the
variety of machines are much greater than of latter years. Look for the old
Rolls Royce with a Jag engine and the early sling shot style of the full
race machines. 'Run what you brung' really meant just that. Did any viewers
attend that meeting or am I the only one left? It is shot on 8mm Kadachrome
film long before the miracle of digital video had been thought of. I paid
£75 for that camera in 1963 and it took me two years to pay it off on hire
purchase (remember hire purchase?). No credit cards in those days! As a
skilled mechanic I was earning just £12 a week and drove a 1936 Morris 8
to work each day. The good old days? Some of them were!

My 67 Fastback Mustang
Again... This event was the first event with my new 3-link coil over rear
suspension that I designed. It worked extremely well and I expect it'll
get a tad better with a little more tuning. The front end now pushes real
bad - I'm assuming this is due to the spool in the rear end.
The spool worked quite well with the leaf spring suspension - but with the
rear tires in better contact with the ground the car wants to continue in a
straight line rather than turn in. The spool will be replaced before the
next event with a Half Tight DPI platinum LSD.
The miss shift between 6 and 7 was actually just an accidental shift into
neutral, so the 9k peak was just a free rev. The motor should be capable
of spinning near 10k with out trouble (not tested...) though it makes the
most power well before that.

after this video we did weld rear end, put in a throttle pedal, a tach,
then jumped it, split the bell housing and blew it up :)

Lawrenceville, Illinois. In addition, a Sport Car Race held on June 19,
1955 at the Lawrenceville Airport is also included.
