http://www.autobytel.com/auto-shows/united-states/detroit/ The 2014 Mazda6 is going to be a big player in the sedan market. This Skyactiv-D racecar looks amazing and will compete as the first diesel powered entry at the Rolex 24-Hour endurance race in Daytona. Mazda loves racing and this Mazda6 has the good looks and power to break the heart of Rotary lovers out there. Autobytel was in the building at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show to see this cool looking car from Mazda Racing. The new Mazda6 Skyactiv diesel is heading to Daytona looking for its 24th class win. In the past a rotary engine powered the Mazda racecars, now it's a 2.2 liter with compound turbochargers that help the engine put out 400 horsepower and 450 lb-ft. of torque. Now only is the Mazda Racing ride a great looking car; it promotes diesel and the Mazda6 all at once. 2014 Mazda6 SKYACTIV-D Grand Am Race Car from Rolex 24 at Daytona
Recently Mazda rolled out 3 new cars to compete in the Grand Am Race Car Series. These 2014 Mazda6 Sedans are powered by SKYACTIV Diesel engines. At the 2013 Chicago Auto Show, John Doonan Director of Mazda Motorsports, gives us some insights into campaigning a new set of race cars at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. According to Mr. Doonan: "Anyone that knows Mazda knows we dream big. Certainly the launch of the SKYACTIV Clean Diesel race engine in the 2014 Mazda6 at the Rolex 24 was an example of that. The results at the end of the race are not what we had hoped for, but we are part of a development project with this engine as well as with this new platform. We learned a lot and unfortunately the same issue happened with all 3 of the engines. This is common when developing a new race car. You can hone in on that particular issue and solve it going forward." "We are very excited about the next step. We go to Austin Texas for the Circuit of the Americas in just under a month for the next round. Hopefully we will have solved all the issues and there will be some track testing between now and then to give it a go and make sure we are prepared to continue the development process and prove the reliability of this diesel package."
