1964 Mercury Comet STK 55 ATL
These little Mercury Comets are getting difficult to find, you just don't see them that often compared to other models from the 60's. They're also a nice change from all the Ford Mustangs out there if you're a Ford fan and want a smaller car with a little performance attitude for not a lot of money. Those are both probably reasons why we've been selling nearly every mid-60's Falcon & Comet we get lately, and we've been selling them fast. To say these cars are hot in the collector marketplace right now would be an understatement. And the one weve got here is the best yet!
This beautiful example is a very solid Georgia car and it's got a numbers-matching drive train. We can trace this car to being in GA all the way back to 1973, in fact it's got a 1973 GA title that goes with it. The Vin#(4T23K549597) tells us it's a Caliente 2DR Hardtop that was produced in the Metuchen, NJ Ford plant with the K-Code 289 4V engine. The body of this car is very straight and all the trim and emblems look excellent. We were most impressed with the car's undercarriage as the original floor pans are still in place and look virtually new. That's really hard to find in these cars as they were prone to rusting easily but this one somehow escaped all of that. The original metal door tag is still in place and looks excellent so this car has the matching Vin# on both the fender and the door tag. That's worth mentioning because all too often one or the other is not readable on a mid-60's Ford/Mercury. The door tag tells us the car is correctly finished in its original color of Maroon Metallic/Burgundy (Code X).
Moving inside, this car's interior was just completely re-done in the correct Medium Palomino (Code 39) upholstery per the door tag. The carpet, headliner, door panels, and seats are all brand new and look fantastic. The original gauge panel was even sent out and reconditioned to look showroom new. A Grant steering wheel was added for better looks but we have the original in the trunk for you purists. Like most Comets, this car doesn't have many power options (and no AC) but it is a factory four speed car (Code 5) and it came with a 3.25 rear end (Code 4). These car's were about performance, not creature comforts. Being a Caliente, it does have the upgraded interior with courtesy lights on the doors (they work) and wood grain on the dash, etc. The car still retains its numbers matching K-Code 289 4V and it's running excellent and is very powerful. Other than the steering wheel, the 15 Inch Amercian Racing wheels, and engine dress-up kit this car looks just like it would have sitting on the showroom floor in 1964. This is a really nice & original Comet Caliente that is sure to hold its value due to its correctness and rarity. Call us today!
