2002 Corvette C5 Z06 Owners Manual VHS Tape
This video, on VHS, was provided to new owners and specifically focuses on
The VHS is labeled "2002 Corvette Z06" but as you may know, the 2002-2004
Z06's had a virtually identical drive train. I personally own a 2004 Z06
and found the video very informative.
The video addresses issues that customers were concerned about such as
noises (clunking sound on 6-Speed Z06's), HVAC controls (why the A/C
compressor turns on when you press the front defrost button, undercarriage
noises, and more.
It also provides suggestions and tips on how to prep your Z06 for racing:

2004 Corvette Z06 - Cool Cars, Hot Cars, Fast Cars
2004 Corvette Z06
Just your run-o-the-mill badass Z06 roadster.
The C5 Corvette was literally built differently than all GM products
leading up to 1997.
0.29 drag in the wind tunnel.
D.I.C. which could read diagnostic codes and display them for the driver
without a computer.
Constructing the frame rails with a process called Hydroforming. Replacing
14 parts used in the structural integrity of the C4 helping reducing the
C5's weight by 68 pounds. Hydroforming also alleviated the tall frame rails
for the C5 making it less of a chore to enter and exit then the C4. You had
to carefully step over the frame so you wouldn't scrape the interior carpet
with your shoes or worse stiletto heals. I thought it was unique and missed
it in the C5.
Third-generation LS1 V8 was overhauled to an all-aluminum block, utilizing
ignition coils replacing the distributor of all previous small-block
engines and new cylinder firing order. Rated at 345 bhp and 350 lbs. ft.
With 28 mpg highway mileage it avoided the gas guzzler tax.
Another trend set by Corvette was Run Flats Tires became standard equipment
The most important of all refinements was the transmission being moved to
the rear of the car right between the wheels aptly named trans-axle. Of
course the significance of this was Corvette now had a more even
distribution weight to the tune of 51% in front 48% in back. This may not
seem like a big deal now but in 1997 as a gearhead or an American auto
enthusiast you knew what they meant for the C5...Poising GM to enter and
compete in the Super Car market.
My personal favorite accommodation was the introduction of the Fixed Roof
Coupe for 1999.
There was a rumor back in the day that Chevy was entertaining the idea of
offering a striped down model of the Corvette allegedly nicknaming it The
Poor Man's Corvette. This was how the Fixed Roof Coupe would fit into the
future stable of Corvettes. To be honest this wasn't such a bad idea as far
as my circle of fiends were concerned, a no frills V8 Muscle Car would have
been a welcomed turnaround for the American automotive enthusiast...It may
have even made a Corvette buyer out of them.
But, it didn't happen.
What did happen was in 2001 Chevrolet used the Fix Roof Coupe body style
too debut the most impressive Vehicle GM ever envisioned...2004 Corvette
Z06 with the heart stopping LS6 hammering out 385 bhp and 385 lb·ft.
The FE4 suspension calibrated toward high speed operation was developed for
Z06 and not available on other Corvette models.
2004 Corvette Z06 boasted 405 horsepower. However,
dynamometer tests have shown that GM underrated the LS6 by 20 horsepower giving it a total
of 425 asphalt splitting horsepower and a missile
screaming 412 foot pounds of torque. 1.90 second from 0 to 60 mph. This
3,074 pound badass can shear through the quarter mile in 11.97 second, bone
stock at 118.80 mph.

2004 Chevrolet Z06 Commemorative Edition Corvette
For 2004, the final chapter in the C5 era, the tradition continues with the
Commemorative Edition Corvette Z06, celebrating Corvette Racing's historic
Le Mans victories and delivering technology that once again improves the
This Z06 has a clean CARFAX and has only 12,130 miles and is in showroom
condition. It is one of only 1,700 Commemorative editions in the United
States and is in showroom condition.
The 2004 Commemorative Edition Z06 features a new hood using carbon fiber
material, and exterior graphics and color designed in concert with the
new-look C5-R that raced for a landmark third consecutive Le Mans GTS class
championship. The carbon fiber hood represents the first time this advanced
material has been used as original equipment for a painted exterior panel
on a North American-produced vehicle. The unique Le Mans Blue paint with a
silver and red center graphic will appear on the race car only at Le Mans
2003 and only on the road on a limited number of 2004 Commemorative Edition
For 2004, Z06 gets two performance-enhancing upgrades - the carbon fiber
hood and revised chassis tuning for quicker, smoother response in the most
challenging environments. The Z06 is 38 pounds lighter than a standard C5
hardtop thanks to weight-saving measures such as a titanium Exhaust, thinner glass, lighter wheel, non-EMT
tires, reduced sound proofing, fixed rear radio aerial, and a lighter
battery. Starting with the 2002 model year, the LS6 engine output was
increased to 405 hp (302 kW) due to a larger CFM air intake, stiffer valve
springs, lighter sodium filled valves, more aggressive camshaft lift and
timing, lighter pistons, and revised engine block.
The carbon fiber hood - only available on the Commemorative Edition version
of the 2004 Z06 - weighs 20.5 pounds, 10.6 less than the standard hood,
providing another measure of weight savings for a car that already enjoys a
very potent power-to-weight ratio. Previously reserved for racing and
exotic sports cars, carbon fiber combines extremely high strength and low
weight. The inside hood panel is a hybrid of carbon fiber and Sheet Molded
Specifically developed for the Corvette, the Commemorative Edition Z06 hood
achieves a higher level of exterior finish quality than previous automotive
applications of carbon fiber. On most carbon fiber parts, the woven pattern
of the material is easily seen beneath the exterior finish. To diminish
that effect and preserve the rich LeMans Blue paint finish, on the
Commemorative Edition Z06 the carbon fibers are aligned in a single
direction. The only visual cue that the hood is made from carbon fiber is
in the red border surrounding the silver graphic on the car, which is
arranged in a woven pattern signifying the material that lies underneath.
The overall result is a finish consistent with the rest of the car that
gives just a slight hint at the carbon fiber construction.
Other unique characteristics of the Z16 (Commemorative Edition Z06) are the
polished aluminum wheels, special paint color and striping, and
commemorative-edition badging and wheel center caps. The Z16 also received
shock damping tuning for improved handling. The Z16 option accounted for
the majority of Z06 Corvettes in 2004, totaling 2025 units, with 325 units
