1964 327 Dyno Test
327 Chevy small block Dyno test. Built for my 64 Impala that is being restored. Matching casting numbers, original looks, high torque and good manners were important. Using the Dyno shop headers, it managed to get 420 torque and 378 horsepower using stock 327 block, heads, intake. With the stock 2.5 inch cast iron Exhaust manifolds and 2.5 inch head pipes, 424 torque and 362 horsepower. Very little loss was attributed to the low flow rate of the stock intake manifold. With the stock 2.5 inch cast iron Exhaust manifolds, 2.5 inch head pipes and a 2 inch reducer at the end (the stock Exhaust necks down from 2.5 to 2 inches) 404 torque and 351 horsepower. With the stock 2.5 inch cast iron Exhaust manifolds, 2.5 inch head pipes and a 2 inch reducer at the end and the stock air cleaner/filter 410 torque and 362 horsepower.

1965 Corvette 327 Motor / Carburetor to Oil Pan Complete & Original 300hp / 360ft. lbs.
This motor was pulled from a 1965 Corvette with 82,000 original miles (additional video of motor running in car before it was pulled also shows odometer). The details are 175 to 185 psi compression all the way around, new gaskets top to bottom, 45psi oil pressure at 800 rpm idle & 70 psi at 2000rpm. I have internal "scope" images & video of motor also. This was absolutely well maintained and cared for properly. Motor is located in SW FL and on a stand ready to fire up complete with water cooling. Block Casting number 3782870 clock=4, date code May 15 1965. Head casting numbers: Left bank 3872461, clock=3, date= May 15, 1965 Right bank 3872461 clock=1, date= May 11, 1965. The block suffix code is FO5I7HR indicating this motor was originally installed in a 1965 Corvette with a 2 speed powerglide transmission and A/C as high performance 300HP w/ 4 bbl carburetor & 10.5:1 compression. Has original carter 4 bbl carb, mechanical tach drive distributor, intake manifold, valve covers, flexplate etc. About as complete and unmolested as will ever find. This motor is rarer than hens teeth. Any serious offers will be considered. Leave a comment if interested.

Next time, I'll do the burnout in second gear... 327 ( I'm guessing about 400 HP) Super T-10 4 Speed, 12 Bolt Posi w/4.88 Gears. I just got her on the road and I'm still working things out but she runs pretty good.

Testing 327 with the 4.88 gears before I put the 3.08 rear back in to drive some place. The 4.88 are fun but 40 mph is too slow. Plan to put some 3.55 or 3.73 in my posi for next summer. Engine runs comp cam 280H, 041 heads, 600DP Holley. Super T-10 with deep 3.43 first gear (with the tall 29 inch BFG) for the little mouse to get into its power range of RPM. First run 1st gear caught me sleeping :) Have had this car for lots of years, it had seen many changes. What's next?





Cylinder Head 201 - Radius Cut Valve Job

This video is brought to you with permission from my machinist in full 1080HD, and covers cleaning up the head inside and out, preparation and setting up a radius cutter, cutting all 16 valve seats, valve grinding, and spans 3.5 hours of actual work in under 30 minutes. There's nothing like this anywhere else on YouTube. THANK YOU BALLOS PRECISION MACHINE. Thank you for the professional explanation and execution of a job excellently-done, and un-precedented access to your facilities. A valve job is done by re-grinding or replacing valves, and then having new seats cut to match the faces of the valves you're using. There are several different machines that might be utilized to achieve this result, but the process is the same no matter how it's done. There are seat cutters that utilize cutting stones. There are valve seat cutters with 3 separate angles installed 120° out-of-phase, and there are single cutters with all 3 angles (radius cutter) that cut with one blade in one pass. The machine demonstrated here is a Sunnen VGS-20 Radius Cutter. This machine (now out of production) produces a gradual curved seat that's superior to the shape of a traditional 3-angle seat. While a radius cutter does contain the 30, 45 and 60 degree angles, it does so without leaving any sharp edges between their faces. My valve selection includes Supertech 1mm oversized nitride-coated stainless steel undercut and back-cut intake valves, and 1mm oversized Inconel back-cut Exhaust valves. Inconel is a high-temperature alloy utilized in marine and forced-induction performance engines that can handle more abuse than steel can without melting. The other characteristics of the valves which are discussed typically yield bigger gains in airflow than simply using a bigger hole and a bigger valve. Why I did this to a perfectly-good cylinder head: I changed cams. Because the valves were previously recessed during another valve job 9 years ago, my valve installed height was increased and this raised the operating positions of my rocker arms. My new camshaft selection dictates using the stock valve install height. The only solutions to this valve install height problem are to either replace the valve seats, or install oversized valves. I opted for the latter.
