following Mazda 787B on my bicycle at 24h of Le Mans 2013 (idle + revving)
To mark the 90th anniversary of the 24h of Le Mans, 11 legendary winning cars were chosen by the public and a jury. They did 2 slow parade laps before the actual FIA WEC race would start. One of these was this Mazda 787B. This is the actual winning car from the 1991 24 hours of Le Mans. Driven to victory by Bertrand Gachot, Johnny Herbert and Volker Weidler. Engine: 4 Rotor R26B, 2.616 liter / 159.6 cu in, Naturally Aspirated Power: 700 bhp / 522 KW @ 9000 rpm Torque: 608 Nm / 448 ft lbs @ 6500 rpm Weight: 830 kilo / 1829.8 lbs event: 24 hours of Le Mans date: 2013-06-22 Filmed with a Canon Legria HF M46. Mazda Race 787B, RX-792P, RX-7
Mazda 787B, Mazda RX-792P, Mazda RX-7 The 787B and RX-792B both use the 4-rotor R26B an engine that is easily capable of at least 900 HP, but limited for long term racing reliability to 700 HP. Racing rotary engines are easily one of the loudest Exhausts at idle and arguably the loudest Exhaust note on the track at full song. An incredible engineering feat and incredible engine.

Silver Arrow warming up, LOUD engine sound, W165 Mercedes
Goodwood Festival of Speed 2011, a W165 Mercedes silver arrow warming up. Chassis 449547 was the second of the two W165s completed for the 1939 Tripoli Grand Prix. It was considered the slower of the two cars and Lang was sent out in it with an unfavourable strategy. He nevertheless dominated the race and if he had wanted, he could have lapped his 'team leader' in the closing stages. As mentioned the car was only tested and demonstrated after its debut victory. It remained dormant for over fifty years and is still only very rarely seen outside of Stuttgart. Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the 'Silver Arrows,' it is seen here at one of those rare outings, during the 2009 Retromobile in Paris. An OLDTIME MONSTER , the Charge Mazda 767B with 4 rotors engine (13 J ) , 630 hp @ 9000rpm with one meter high , weight 800kg ... just listen. ps: the car is driven on a tight and curvy / bumpy racetrack , not the best for a real racing car.
