Dodge Dakota Coolant Leak Repair - Including Bypass Hose, Thermostat, Water Pump, etc.
To get to what turned out to be a Thermostat leak we had to remove the following items: The Serpentine belt, the fan, the Air Conditioning Compressor, the Alternator and the A/C and Alternator Bracket. This way you can easily access the bypass hose, the thermostat housing, and the upper heater hose (or otherwise called the heater to engine hose). This also gives you free access to the water pump if you were going to replace it. This is actually the easiest way to access the water pump as opposed to the way the service manual describes removing it (without removing the A/C and Alternator bracket). However, after doing the job we discovered a second leak on the lower heater hose (or the heater to water pump return hose). Which also needed to be corrected.

Dodge Ram Dakota 4.7L 4x4 V8 - First Snow Day (Drifts, Donuts, Cold Start)...
First major snowfall of the year - only about 2-4 inches. This video shows a 5*F (-15*C) cold start, then works into some donuts and drifts on a closed course. The truck is stock except for 31" BFG T/A KO tires and an MBS dual Exhaust.

Dodge Dakota 4.7 V8 Pulls Out Stuck Semi Truck from Deep Snow - Good Deed for the Day!
Leaving the gym I came across a tanker truck which was stuck in some deep snow. He swung the cab over into an unplowed area with about 6" of hard snow and his super single drive tires just weren't getting traction. I was in my S4 at the time and told him I only lived about 10 minutes away and would come back with my truck. The truck driver was thankful but made it clear he didn't think a pickup would be able to pull him. As promised I came back with the Dakota (and camera!) to see him still struggling. Plenty of people with trucks much larger than mine drove right on by, nobody seemed interested in helping this guy. As someone who has been helped before, I figured I'd at least give it a shot. Plus it'd be fun. With all the excitement, I forgot to lock it into 4lo on the first attempt. I don't think he was helping with the cab, you can see I was able to rock it a bit in 4Hi. On the second try in 4lo I had no problem yanking it out. The truck driver didn't know the weight of the truck as it sits. His full weight is 122,000 lbs (55,338 kg). This isn't your average semi truck, this thing was huge. I'm guessing it was 40,000 to 50,000 lbs empty. The pickup is a 2000 Dodge Dakota SLT quad cab 4x4 4.7L V8. It's mostly stock. The rear axle is fully locking (Powertrax No-Slip) with 3.55 gears. Tires are 31 x 10.5 BFG TA KO's. The Exhaust is an MBS catback stainless system.

Go-2 Socket Tool Review -EricTheCarGuy

To enter for your chance to win, fill out the short form at - http://www.go2socket.com/eric-sent-me/ ‎ The Go2 socket is a 3/8" drive universal socket adapter. It can handle all kinds of fasteners, even badly rusted ones. In this review I put it through it's paces to see what it's limits are. Surprisingly, it did quite well with everything I put it though. The one limitation I found with the tool was the possibility of not being able to use it in some applications, or that it might sometimes be difficult to use because of it's design. For a 'universal' tool I thought it did pretty good. It's affordably priced so you might want to check one out for yourself to see if it can work for you. Tool reviews posted every other Wednesday. How To Diagnose and Replace a Rear Caliper Using an Infrared Thermometer -EricTheCarGuy
How To Diagnose and Replace a Rear Caliper Using an Infrared Thermometer shows how to use an infrared thermometer to find a bad caliper. This method will also work on front calipers as well. Earlier this year ScannerDanner was visiting the shop and after we came back from a drive in my 2004 Honda Element, we smelled overheated brakes. The smell seemed to be coming from the right rear caliper. Upon further investigation, using an infrared thermometer, I found that that caliper had seized up and needed to be replaced. I've done brake videos like this in the past but never went through this particular diagnostic procedure to figure out what the issue was. It's a method you can use for many other mechanical issues as temperature diagnosis is something that is used throughout the service and repair fields. It's a fast and easy alternative to taking things apart for diagnosis. I hope it's able to help you should you run into similar issues with your own vehicles.
