All-New Chevrolet Trailblazer Makes World Debut in Thailand
BANGKOK -- The Trailblazer, Chevrolet's tough new "haul-anything,
go-anywhere" SUV, made its world debut today at a special event ahead of
The 33rd Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand.
First previewed in concept form at last year's Dubai International Motor
Show in the Middle East, the Trailblazer will go on sale around the world,
beginning with Thailand in June.
Based on General Motors' new global body-on-frame midsize truck
architecture, the Trailblazer was designed to feature premium ride comfort
and handling dynamics for urban and highway driving, matched by superior
Inside, the all-new Trailblazer features leading interior space and
intuitive three-row tumble and fold-flat seating, representing Chevrolet's
most significant play in the competitive body-on-frame midsize SUV segment.
Available in two- and four-wheel-drive configurations, the Trailblazer is
powered by GM's new four-cylinder Duramax turbo-diesel engines that offer class-leading
power and torque matched with efficiency and refinement.
Martin Apfel, president, GM Southeast Asia and Chevrolet Sales Thailand,
said the introduction of the new Trailblazer, which will be built at GM
Thailand's manufacturing facility in Rayong, will Boost Chevrolet's presence in the world's
fast-growing SUV markets.
"True to its name, the Trailblazer will blaze the trail for new Chevrolet
vehicles coming into the market. It has been built tough to offer Chevrolet
customers everything they need from a heavy-duty SUV," he said.
Designed for family transport and urban commuting, the Trailblazer is
equally at home negotiating off-road terrain as it is with urban traffic
and highway cruising," Apfel added. "It will hit the sweet spot, not just
for consumers in Thailand and throughout Southeast Asia, but in every place
around the world where it will be sold."
The Trailblazer was developed in tandem with the all-new Chevrolet Colorado
midsize pickup truck by a highly skilled team of GM engineers, who used
their expertise to add passenger vehicle attributes to the midsize truck
Team members lived in Thailand during the development of both vehicles,
immersing themselves in the highly competitive truck and SUV market and
observing how Thais use their vehicles and the driving conditions they
experience. The insights gathered led to the development of Trailblazer
models covering two specification levels: the mid-level LT and the
Powertrain and Transmission
The Trailblazer will be powered by GM's all-new family of Duramax
four-cylinder turbo-diesel engines,
featuring 2.5L and 2.8L displacements. The engines incorporate a host of
technologies aimed at delivering an optimal balance of power, performance
and fuel economy.
The range-topping 2.8L variant features a variable-geometry turbocharger for optimal power and efficiency
across the engine's revolution band, and a balancer-shaft for greater
smoothness. Both engines feature components designed to last for 240,000
kilometers, enhancing durability and reliability while contributing to
lower cost of ownership.
A choice of two drivetrains will be offered -- a five-speed manual
transmission and a six-speed automatic featuring electronic shift-control
with clutch-to-clutch capability and an electro-hydraulic control module.
The 2.8-liter engine is rated at 180 horsepower (132 kW) and 346
lb.-ft. of torque (470 Nm) with an available six-speed automatic
transmission (324 lb.-ft. / 440 Nm with a five-speed manual). The 2.5-liter
engine is rated at 150 horsepower (110 kW) and 258
lb.-ft. of torque (350 Nm).
Additional powertrains for specific markets will be announced later.

GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept
GMC SIERRA ALL TERRAIN HD CONCEPT TAKES HEAVY-DUTY CAPABILITY TO NEW GROUND
DETROIT -- The GMC Sierra All Terrain HD concept is an exploration of
heavy-duty truck capability combined with greater off-road versatility. It
is highlighted by a bold exterior design, enhanced all-terrain suspension
and premium details expected of a GMC -- all designed to enable greater
access to off-road destinations.
The new 2011 Sierra HD underpins the All Terrain HD concept, with a
modified, production-based 4WD chassis and the Duramax diesel/Allison 1000
six-speed powertrain. The enhanced suspension and unique body dimensions,
including increased ground clearance and wider track, as well as greater
approach/departure angles, deliver off-road capability while maintaining HD
levels of payload and trailering capacity.
"The Sierra All Terrain HD concept takes GMC's outstanding new HD platform
to the next level, marries it to the legendary Duramax diesel/Allison
transmission, and provides a heavy-duty expression of GMC's premium All
Terrain package," said Lisa Hutchinson, GMC product marketing director. "It
delivers the exceptional capabilities of the Sierra HD -- hauling, towing
and performance -- and applies them to the toughest driving environments.
It's the ultimate professional-grade tool for construction crews, ranchers
and adventurers whose activities aren't limited by where the pavement
The Sierra All Terrain HD features a unique five-foot, eight-inch Crew
Cab/short box body configuration that supports a wheels-at-the-corners
proportion. Shorter in overall length than production Sierra HD models, the
concept's dimensions contribute to greater approach/departure angles.
Additional off-road elements include:
* Wider, 73-inch (1,853 mm) track for greater stability
* Approximately 3 inches (76 mm) greater ground clearance
* Custom front upper and lower control arms
* Specially constructed Fox off-road shocks with remote fluid reservoirs
(integrated in the wheel house liners)
* Front and rear jounce shocks
* Electronic front stabilizer bar disconnection
* 35-inch-tall BFGoodrich KM2 "mud terrain" tires mounted on 20-inch
machined aluminum wheels
* Full composite underbody protection.
"The capability-enhancing attributes of the Sierra All Terrain HD build on
the already outstanding capabilities offered in the all-new production
Sierra HD trucks," said Hutchinson. "Although it is strictly a concept, it
is a pretty realistic one."
From every angle, the All Terrain HD looks the part of a dedicated off-road
performer, with bold, accentuated features complemented by a wide stance
and tall profile.
Streamlined bumpers are designed to enhance approach/departure angles and
incorporate frame-mounted recovery hooks -- with integrated skid plates. A
large, airflow-optimized grille maximizes cooling in tough conditions,
while a forced-induction hood delivers more air to the Duramax diesel
"The design of the All Terrain HD is an expression of its capabilities --
strong, functional and absolutely professional grade," said Carl Zipfel,
design manager. "We're excited about the design elements and exploring how
they could apply to future GMCs."
Large fender flares stretch away from the body to cover the 35-inch-tall
BFGoodrich tires. At the rear, the cargo box features lockable, lighted
storage compartments, along with a number of tie-down cleats, including a
pair in the bed floor and two on each side of the bed. A non-slip rubber
pad is used on the tailgate, while two special compartments inside the
cargo box provide access to a 110-volt power outlet and air compressor. A
composite bed liner with a unique "circuit board" pattern provides a
protective cover for the bed.
Motorized, deployable assist steps for the cab and cargo bed make it easier
to enter and exit the All Terrain HD, while maximizing ground clearance
during off-road driving. It also incorporates a number of industrial-grade
lighting elements to provide greater visibility for safer driving where
stars may be the only other source of illumination. The lighting details
* High-intensity LED headlamp, taillamp and fog lamp lighting mounted in
impact-resistant composite housings and featuring edge-lit illumination
* High-intensity LED park and turn signal lamps
* Smooth-appearance front marker lamps integrated behind the top edge of
the windshield glass
* Integrated center high-mounted stop lamp and rear marker lights mounted
at the top edge of the rear window glass
* LED floodlights for the cargo bed and assist steps.

The Chevrolet TrailBlazer is a mid-size sport utility vehicle produced by
the Chevrolet division of American automaker General Motors.
On November 10, 2011, General Motors officially revealed a second
generation of the vehicle to be sold worldwide.
31th-Jan-2012: Chevrolet India is mulling to bring its giant Trailblazer
SUV on Indian shores soon. Chevrolet Trailblazer will be positioned amid
Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in India. Thought to be priced at about
Rs 15 lakh-Rs 17 lakh, Chevy's new beastly SUV will have a choice of
engines ranging from 2.8-litre (180bhp, 47.8 kgm) to 2.5-litre, 150bhp
diesel units. Seeing these figures, one can gauge that the new car is able
to give a neck-to-neck competition to Fortuner and Endeavour. The SUV will
be a proper body on frame with 7 seats and will be more spacious than other
serious SUVs in India.
Chevrolet Trailblazer engine-extremely fuel efficient. The car will come
with two engine tunes, one being 2.8 litres producing 180 BHP of peak power
and the other one with 2.5 litres of engine churning out 150 BHP of power.
Both these motors are diesel and promise the consumer to be highly fuel
efficient. Chevrolet Trailblazer with 2.5 litre of diesel engine is
expected to deliver an average fuel economy of about 13 km per litre, which
is actually quite impressive for an SUV. On the other hand, the variant
powered with 2.8 litre of diesel motor is likely to deliver a mileage of 12
km per litre. To make Chevrolet Trailblazer more fuel economic, the engine
has been intelligently coupled with six speed automatic transmission, which
also enhances the driving experience for the owner. Delivering the mileage
of about12 to 13 km per litre for an SUV is certainly remarkable,
especially when it is being sold in a mileage driven country.
Trailblazer looks sizzling on roads. It has perfect body with awesome
dimensions. The fit and finish has no lacking in it. It is made of highly
detailed sheet metal. The brawn image of Chevrolet Trailblazer is
complemented with sporty roof rails, projector type head lamps and silver
skid plate. Chevrolet is giving all its cars a signature two part grille.
This wide grille is neatly outlined with chrome and the partition adorns a
Chevrolet bowtie on it. The bonnet is held high with a lot of character
lines. The tinted windscreen appears to very small due to the sloping down
roof at the front. An addition in sinew the character of Trailblazer is
added by the thick chrome band incorporated in the lower bumper. This band
extends to the side air ducts which are thickly chrome outlined. It becomes
quite evident that Chevrolet has whole heartedly sprinkled chrome on the
exterior part of this SUV. LED lighting housed in sculpted aluminium
decorative bezels at front as well as rear makes this SUV a luxury piece.
Most of the gazing time is consumed at the front. However, side profile is
no less in enamoring the spectators. The very muscular 20 inch wide wheels
are painted and polished with aluminium and Cooper Zeon LTZ tyres renders
high ground clearance to this SUV. From side, Chevrolet Trailblazer looks a
perfect off-roader with side footboard protector which enables you to steer
this brawny SUV through tough terrains. The high-rising beltline looks
amazing along with character lines on lower side of the door. The mirror
mounted LED turn indicators add that X-factor to the mule. Trailblazer
garners claps from all its angles. The rear windscreen is extended so much
that it comes at the side also. The quarter glass is very small thus
shrinking the window frame and imparting a crossover like structure.
However, the B Pillar is tad too thick and sheds attitude to passerby. It
is reported that the designers in Brazil were very cognizant in sticking to
'body-in, wheels out' type pattern which led to the ultimate sporty look.
This design delivers high approach and departure angles. The intricate
sheet metal work is evident in door panels; rear quarters that amalgamates
layers of natural light.
The new-generation Trailblazer combines the hauling and towing capability
of a body-on-frame SUV While front and side have muscle and matter attached
to its character, the rear is all about elegance. The futuristic design of
tail lamps makes one doubtful about 2012 Chevrolet Trailblazer being a
production version. The rear spoiler a seam of LED high mount stop lamp.
The pillar less rear windscreen is adapted for a wider look at the curvy
rear. Small chrome band acts as a tail gate opener while the longer chrome
bar with loops at either side is placed in the lower bumper just like
front. Tri-coat pearlescent white exterior paint and integrated LED front
and rear fog lamps provide a premium appearance. Overall, Chevrolet
Trailblazer looks agile and athletic from outside and is unmistakably
