This video was previously uploaded by several accounts, but it is my video.
It is me driving, so I can tell you all about the car.
It's NOT an Escort Cosworth or Sierra Cosworth as some have suggested.
There is a picture of it at the end of the video.
This video was taken at the Annual Performance Ford Top Speed Thrash
several years ago and was relatively unplanned. It wasn't a 'staged' race.
Furthermore, there is no suggestion my me that the Escort is better than
the Evo. This video demonstrates the raw power of the Escort. Reeling the
Evo in from such a poor start shows just how powerful this car was. It was
built ONLY for Top Speed, hence the poor initial start.
The Evo belongs to Gary of AP Tuning in Norwich and at the time of the
video was around 450bhp.
The Escort is a 1989 RS turbo Series 2
(Mk4 Escort Shape). It has a 1600cc CVH engine, the original Block that it
rolled out of the factory with. The original completely standard crank is
still there too. The car also ran a standard Ford Head Gasket. It was on
modern Fuel Injection and highly tuned with a large turbo. Of course the gearbox was modified too,
many people have quizzed me over the years about gear ratios and I never
disclosed my secrets!
To clarify, this car NEVER ran a Dump Valve (or BOV). The noise you hear on
gear-changes is the natural Wastegate 'Chatter'. Please note the
gear-change just as the speedo goes off the scale!
The car always ran on standard pump fuel (usually Shell V-Power), but for
Top Speed runs I usually added a bottle of NF Octane Booster for safety.
The car was uncontested as the Top Speed record holder for many years, but
after a lot of stress and sleepless nights eventually got stripped for

This is nothing more than the fastest Escort Mk1 of the World.
It is a Pinto OHC Powered engine with Holset HX50 Hybrid turbo
over 11.000 Rpm and over 1000Hp are possible. 5th gear wheelspin.

Partial throttle runs for fuel mapping. Dyno was set to sweep
1000-7000rpm in 18 seconds. Limiter at 6450rpm. Crash at 5400rpm most
likely due bad conrod bearing.
