SOLD - MORE URGENTLY REQUIRED Unrepeatable and show winning Mk2 Ford Escort 1.6 Ghia with only two owners from new. EQUIPMENT Laminated windscreen, all-round tinted glass, childproof locks on rear doors, bright grille surround, protective bumper inserts with overriders, tobacco vinyl roof, bright Exhaust trim, ghia badging, tachometer, trip recorder, chrome gearshift lever, cut pile carpet, loop pile carpet on foot of doors, head restraints, real wood fascia, remote control drivers door mirror, quartz clock, vanity mirror on sun visor, glove box. EXTERIOR The exterior of this Mk2 Escort is impeccable in every respect. Finished in Diamond White it has a deep, gloss shine which is amazing and an absolute pleasure to polish. The colour code and description sticker is still present in the spotless boot. The Tobacco vinyl roof is unmarked. Supplying Ford Dealer, M & J Quick Ltd pressed aluminium number plates are present. This Dealer branding even extends to the Tax disc holder and window sticker for the true enthusiast. No marks, dings, blemishes or imperfections can be found. It has no stone chips. All the trim is perfect, window rubbers are black and all decals are correct and present including the Ghia badges. The bronze tinted glass is mark free but a few marks can just be seen on the front screen. Paperwork included in the comprehensive history file reveals that the car was treated to Cadulac corrosion application at a cost of £28.75 in addition to Zibart treatment when new. The Zibart plug holes can be seen in all the doors and sills explaining why when detailed in 2010 only two new outer wing panels were fitted. This nut and bolt detailing extends to the under body allowing onlookers to be amazed when mirrors are placed under this vehicle if the new owner chooses to show the car in this way. A very slight colour mismatch exists. INTERIOR The interior of this Escort Ghia is outstanding and as new. The twin reclining front seats are covered in the luxurious Crushed Velour/Verona Chocolate Fabric with no damage. All the headlining is tight and clean, all the gauges including the fascia mounted clock operate as does the two speed heater fan. There is a minor mark on the passenger sunvisor. The boot area including carpet, spare wheel and tools are as new. This car really is a beautiful, unspoilt place to be and exactly how Ford intended. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION The 1599cc OHC with twin venturi carburettor and a 4-branch Exhaust manifold performs faultlessly producing 86bhp. Factory standard specification including a high lift camshaft and larger valves make this car a modern classic. The only modification is hardened valves so the car can run safely on unleaded fuel. It is a testament to the thousands spent that the engine bay is a visual delight with every component spotlessly clean just like the day it rolled off the production line. Opening the bonnet on this car will produce a gasp to fellow admirers that the new owner will enjoy time and time again. The four speed close ratio gearbox is precise, light and a joy to use. . This is some footage of "Gavin Hearnden" on his pre-season shakedown at the Boconnoc Estate in Cornwall. This awesome Mk2 Escort is a real screamer... Some words from Gavin; "This is an ex national championship car from the eighties. I bought it around 1997, ran it for a couple of events, then stored it when I set up my business. I couldn't give it away in 2002, so in 2004 started to rebuild it which took a couple of years. It has a 1.4 16v corsa engine which has been taken out to 1.6. It revs to 8500 and runs Jenvi throttle bodies. horsepower is unknown, but estimated at 170ish at the wheels. The transmission is a 6 speed quaife sequential. There is also an Atlas axle which houses a Gripper LSD. Braking is handled up front by "AP" front disc brakes, and the rear by means of a "HiSpec" setup. It was on coilovers at the back, but it was very nervous on anything but a racetrack, so I put it back on leaf springs which makes it a bit more compliant, but it's still reluctant to turn in. Gavin."
