EQUIPMENT Light-alloy bonnet, front spoiler, easy-closing doors, impact zones, anti-burst locks, heat insulating glass, strengthened windscreen pillars, rear seat belts, three speed wipers, individually adjusted temperature zones, headlamp adjustment, econometer, oil pressure gauge, fuel reserve light, lights on audible warning, six interior lamps, non-slip steering wheel, rear arm rest, lockable glove compartment, fire extinguisher, central locking, electric sliding roof, electric windows, parking lights, power assisted steering. EXTERIOR This classic Mercedes-Benz is finished Blau, (colour code 320) and looks magnificent with a brilliant shine and deep gloss finish. An unobtrusive yet unmistakable design with long clean lines this example is a real head turner. Paint repairs have been carried out under instruction from the long term owner to keep the appearance maintained. A few marks can be seen on close inspection. Structurally sound having been continually garaged stored makes this example the perfect usable classic Mercedes and not the expensive 'bargain' that can catch many buyers out. The tools, jack and warning triangle are present and the Main Dealer Mercedes-Benz rear window sticker intact. Fantastic engineered quality. INTERIOR The spacious interior is tastefully upholstered in harmonised grey/blue check with leather bolsters complementing the exterior perfectly. Large wide-opening doors give convenient access to a genuine four seat coupe. Deep pile carpeting throughout has been protected by original fit Mercedes-Benz over-mats but some discolouration can now be seen. A small barely visible wear patch on the drivers anatomically contoured seat is the only material damage. The chrome seat side trim is missing due to being cracked. The wood veneer is preserved. All the gauges, controls and electrics operate perfectly. The four optional electric windows work as does the sliding roof. An unopened first-aid kit still occupies the correct rear parcel shelf location. A comfortable refined and ergonomically designed environment. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION The six cylinder in-line engine with fuel injection, twin-overhead camshafts and transistorised ignition produces 185bhp and as a regularly maintained unit will continue to offer extraordinary reliability. Gloriously smooth and powerful it is mated to the optional four-speed torque convertor transmission which is seamless in operation and suits the character of this model. WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES Optional light-alloy wheels are unmarked and are shod in quality 195/70 R14 Dunlop SP Sport front and Michelin MXV rear tyres. Twin-circuit servo assisted brakes with discs to all four wheels. The front discs are internally ventilated and provide excellent stopping power. The parking brake has separate drums and shoes and holds the car firmly. HISTORY FILE Purchased by a Mrs George locally to us and supplied by Mercedes Main Agents, Eyebury Motors Ltd in Peterborough this car was fondly remembered with its very exclusive private registration number! (Now transferred on to a newer Mercedes). Initially registered in the owners business and then privately in 1996 it has been in her care for 23 years. Mercedes-Benz 500SLC and 190E 2.3-16 at Wakefield Park
In-car video from a Mercedes-Benz 500SLC following (for much of the video) a Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 at a Classic Rally Club drive day at Wakefield Park motor racing circuit near Goulburn, NSW, Australia. The rare 500SLC was a limited production coupe (which like the almost identical 450SLC 5.0 which came immediately before it) sold to homologate these coupes for entry in World Rally Championship events from 1978 to 1980 in which they competed with success including some victories. The 190E 2.3-16 (also referred to as the "Cosworth" after the company which designed the 16 valve cylinder head) was sold from the early until the late 1980s. It too was designed with motorsport in mind, initially as a rally replacement for the 500SLC but eventually found success in European touring car circuit racing. The winter conditions on the southern tablelands at Wakefield Park were very cold and windy which made it difficult to get any heat into the tyres. The track was also wet in places, all making for difficult driving conditions.
