2014 Corvette C7 : Walkaround : Tadge Juechter Chevrolet Chief Engineer

http://MPGomatic.com takes you on a walkaround of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray with Tadge Juechter at the New York City premiere event. Tadge is the Chief Engineer/Vehicle Line Director - Corvette at General Motors. The Corvette first premiered in New York at the GM Motorama Show sixty years ago. This historic event featured pristine representatives of each of the previous six generations of the Corvette, including the very same car that was shown in NYC decades ago. The C7 Corvette Stingray was first shown at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, just prior to this event. The red 2014 Corvette shown in this video was shipped to Scottsdale, Arizona immediately after this event to be auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson auction. It sold for $1.1 Million to Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. Parts of the audio in this video are a tad noisy. There were photographers and journalists crawling all over the car while we were shooting. Why they couldn't make the tiny effort to close the driver's door and stop all that dinging is anybody's guess. Keep your ears out as one guy SLAMS the door on this $1.1 million dollar pre-production car. Shooting this video was one of the coolest little opportunities that's come my way in this MPGomatic adventure. Many thanks to General Motors for the invitation, to Tadge for his time, and to you for watching. Having the opportunity to create videos with top automotive engineers and race car drivers just might be the best part of this gig. This piece was shot (handheld, for the most part) with a Canon XH A1s, using a Rode directional mic.

2015 Corvette Z06 first drive with Chief Engineer, Tadge Juechter
The Z06 rejoins the Corvette lineup for 2015 as the most capable model in the iconic car’s 62-year history. It stretches the performance envelope for Corvette with unprecedented levels of aerodynamic downforce – and it is the first Corvette Z06 to offer a supercharged engine, an eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission and, thanks to a stronger aluminum frame, a removable roof panel. The new LT4 supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine is SAE-certified at 650 horsepower (485 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 650 lb-ft of torque (881 Nm) at 3,600 rpm – making the 2015 Corvette Z06 the most powerful production car ever from General Motors and one of the most powerful production cars available in the United States. With the available Z07 package, its capability enables: 0-60 mph acceleration in 2.95 seconds with the eight-speed automatic and 3.2 seconds with the seven-speed manual transmission . Quarter-mile times of 10.95 seconds at 127 mph with the eight-speed and 11.2 seconds at 127 mph with the seven-speed transmission a Lateral acceleration of 1.2 g. 60-0 mph braking in only 99.6 feet – the best of any production car tested by General Motors.





Brand NEW C7 Corvette Interview
I saw the C7 for the first time and it was great! I am still iffy about the tail lights, but in person they are so much better than in the pics.This video is my version of what I think is a good walkaround. The hard top coupe with the carbon fiber top that was in the trunk was a z51 Vette. The convertible was also a z51 vette I tried to cover the whole car and "Lady Stingray" did a good job with the verbal overview. Any questions feel free to comment below! She said that the car will be in the mid $50,000 range and it will be out in August!!! Im excited! How did you balance the evolution of the design with what people come to expect to see in a Corvette? "We really wanted to create an all new Corvette, every surface, everything people see was intended to be all new but also unmistakably Corvette. In the back of our minds we wanted to bring back the passion of the Stingray; some of the famous Corvettes like the 1959 Corvette racecar designed by Bill Mitchell, or the 1963 split-window. We wanted to bring back some of that passion but necessarily the same design cues. The goal was to create a new Corvette statement going forward that builds on the past but in an entirely new way. So one of the fine balances we did was incorporating a lot of racing technology which you can see in the car via the functional air vents and cooling outlets derived from the racecar while at the same time trying to make the car more sophisticated and upscale." Are we going to see different variations of the Corvette that will allow you to take on higher end GT cars? "Within the new Corvette Stingray line-up we have the Z-51 Performance Package to satisfy those who are looking for more track oriented performance, but then there will be different options at a higher luxury level that can be added on such as faux leather or suede headliner. We are going to have a lot of different ways that you can tailor the car to your needs whether it is more towards the performance end of the spectrum or the luxury GT end. What this will do is not only open the car up to the hard-core performance enthusiasts, but also to those who appreciate cars in general." Will there be additional smaller displacement engines in the future? "I will say the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray does have a large displacement 6.2 liter engine, but there is an Eco-Mode with cylinder deactivation which essentially makes the car under certain conditions a 3.1 liter 4-cylinder. With this technology we are allowing people to have the best of both worlds: a large V-8 with 450 ft.-lbs. of torque when you want it and you can also have the fuel economy of a 4-cylinder." The Corvette gets faster with each new generation; will we ever hit a wall in terms of performance? "We keep pushing the technology envelope. On the C6 Corvette, we never thought that the car would make over 630 horsepower in the ZR-1, but we did surpass that figure. And I think the performance will keep on going, people will always want more power and more speed. We are going to keep pushing the envelope as much as we can." Corvette C7 vs Porsche Cayman S
Check my other test drives at http://lotus-111.com 2014 C7 Corvette tested at Las Vegas Motorsport Speedway. The 2013 Porsche Cayman S was also tested on the same track. The real surprise came from the Corvette. The C7 is a real step up from the C6. The chassis is much stiffer, and the engine, even in this soft tune, is a real joy. The steering feel is good, unlike the Cayman where the mechanical connection is purely inexistent. The braking of the C7 is also very solid, stable, and with decent pedal feel. The only bad surprise cam form the auto box, that cannot match the PDK. I wish I could test the manual trans on the C7, which is in my opinion, the one to chose for track action. Finally, the only real negative feeling was related to the calibration of the ESP and traction control, very intrusive compared to the german rival, knowing that I was not allowed to neither to turn them into Sport Plus mode, nor simply disconnecting them, of course... At the end of the day, the Corvette is fastest with 55'76, which could be the fastest this car had even been flapped here (as my instructor said). However, with 150HP less and far less mechanical excitement, the Cayman is just a tiny bit slower with 56'36. The Cayman is therefore a well sorted and performant car, but definitely miss the appeal as a driver's car, of the C7 strength.
