I may be partial to Steve and Nancy Scott's '60 Chevy as I too owned one of these heavyweight cars shortly after high school many years ago but there's something about the style of the big behemoths cars of the 50's and 60's that to this day still are crowd favorites, be it at car shows or the drag strips. Steve who has owned the car for 20 years purchased it all stock right down to the bench seat along with the 170hp 283c.i and powerglide trans. His plan was for a street car as he drove it for a few weeks and then installed a crate 502ci, turbo 400 trans and Dana 60 rear in it. Two weeks later Steve took it to Byron Dragway and has been hooked ever since! Today the wheelstanding Impala boasts a Jimmy Lopez JLO built naturally aspirated 632ci with the trans by Dave from Proformance and recently Steve set a personal best time of 8.39. Steve is a long time member of the Midwest Super Stock Mafia 8 sec Doorslammers Group who along with Cordova International Raceway, local radio station WLLR 103.7 held a contest for a ride along in Steve's aptly named Impalasaurus at the Super Chevy Saturday event. The winner would be determined by calling into the radio station and making their interpretation of what an Impalasaurus would sound like! After many callers Don Drach of Le Claire Iowa was declared the contest winner and the lucky guy to ride along in a 1/4 mile pass in Impalasaurus! For more information on this vehicle visit Logging only weekend miles since its detailed restoration, this brassy Impala displays excellent bodywork that simply glistens under our bright showroom lighting. A lot of time and effort was put into making sure the car¨óŸs body is extremely straight, which resulted in Kansas-flat sheetmetal that¨óŸs completely wave-free. That time was well spent as excellent panel gaps perfectly center hinged pieces which move freely and close with a solid thunk. And those pieces are bathed in a rich layer of Tuxedo Black basecoat that¨óŸs been sealed in glossy clear and buffed to a spectacular shine. Lift this Chevy¨óŸs smooth hood and you¨óŸll find 348 cubic inches of Super turbo Thrust V8 that¨óŸs fully sorted and ready to cruise. A staple of working-class luxury, this top-of-the-line, big horsepower big block is one of the many reasons the Impala enjoys such fantastic name recognition. And absolutely every item from its thick coat of Chevy Orange paint to its unique, bowtie-branded valve covers has at one point been rebuilt, refinished or replaced. At the top of the bright block, a Satin Black, dual-snorkel air cleaner funnels wind into a fully restored tri-power set up that includes three Rochester 2-barrel carburetors and a network of stainless fuel lines. At the sides of the block, restored Exhaust manifolds allow the oversquare cylinders ample breathing room by funneling spent gases into a correct, true-dual Exhaust system. At the back of the block, a traditional points distributor sends fire through fresh 7mm High Temperature plug wires. Cooling is provided by a factory radiator, which sends water past correct tower clamps via reproduction GM hoses. And charge comes courtesy of a Delco yellow cap battery, which jolts a tagged Delco-Remy generator. Behind that big block, a proven Muncie 4-speed spins a familiar GM rear end that literally sails the engine through its broad power band. Under that capable drivetrain, a completely rebuilt coil suspension is equipped with manual steering and 4-wheel drum brakes. At the center of the floors, an aluminized, true-dual Exhaust system utilizes throaty turbo mufflers to weave an aggressive, full-throttle rumble into a subdued and classy idle. And at the corners of the suspension, great looking 225/75R14 Mastercraft A/S IV whitewalls frame deluxe factory wheel covers. Covered in contrasting red houndstooth, this Impala¨óŸs stunning interior has been restored to factory-fresh condition in virtually every way. The wide bench seats feel newer than the car¨óŸs 54 years would suggest, and present just as well now as the day they rolled out of the upholstery shop. In front of those seats, a restored dash, which is chock full of rebuilt gauges, carries what appears to be a correct radio. At the base of that dash, a stylish chrome shifter rows the Muncie through its gears. And in front of the driver, a color-keyed steering wheel spins around a classic Impala centerpiece.
