Removed the 2 speed power glide automatic and put in a Borg Warner T-50 5-speed from a '77 Chevy Monza.
Car is a stock '73 Vega GT with a 2.3L, 140 cubic inch 4-cylinder with a 2-barrel carb. The muffler is an old rusty glass pack.
5 Speeds are much better than 2......
Chevy Vega engine Turbocharged
This is a schnieder cammed,ported Vega engine on 12 PSI Boost. It uses a Corvair Corsa turbo in a "draw through" design.
The rubber hose you see expanding and contracting is just a radiator hose we used to fire it up. That is being replaced with hard tubing.
The nasty idle is the cam..I am going to have to run it at about 1000 rmp idle.

1976 Chevrolet Vega with a custom installed 400 c.i.d. V8. I spotted this car on the PA turnpike near New Stanton,PA. It was being towed home to Ohio after a visit to an action in Atlantic City, New Jersey. I don't think it was a true GT but it was a really nicely maintained example of a rare classic 70's Vega.

1973 Chevy Vega ... all stock, except for HEI ignition and steel cylinder liners.
Probably putting down 70 hp to the rear wheels.... ha ha ha. Notice the cinder blocks in front of the front wheels. The Sumitomo tires are quite sticky and the notorious Vega rear wheel hop is present. This is the first "sustained" burnout this car has seen except for a few "chirps" on the autocross course.

Rebuilt head getting a good testing. Old rusty glass pack muffler provides quite a rumble...... must be from the windshield/dash acoustics.... car isn't really that loud. I have a NOS Vega/Pinto replacement Thrush muffler to replace it one day.
