Piston Install 283 Chevy Small Block V-8 Engine 1959 Corvette
More on our blog: www.vette59.com!
After a not-so-long-and-cold winter the project moves ahead. The new pistons, rings and rod bearings are installed and checked by Katharine and her dad, while rebuilding the 283 small block for their 1959 Corvette.
Tearing Down an Original Chevy 283 (in One Minute)
http://www.horsepowermonster.com -- A full engine teardown is boring, but now when it's all squeezed into a minute! This video is mostly just for fun. The engine is a 283 out of a '57 Chevy, and I think it will eventually make a great little motor for a roadster. The car had been sitting in a field for nearly 20 years, so I knew it would be in rough shape, but the squirrel's nest in the lifter valley was a bit of a surprise--don't blink or you'll miss it.
If you are interested in 283s in general, make sure to check out the additional information in my website at the link below. Thanks!

327 THUMPR CAM FIRST START AFTER REBUILD
THIS IS THE FIRST TIME TRYING TO START MY 327ci SMALL BLOCK CHEVROLET AFTER REBUILD. THIS LITTLE BEAST HAS BEEN BORED 0.40 OVER WHICH MAKES IT A 333ci I PUT A SET OF ALUMINUM 2.02 1.60's HEADS WITH ROLLER ROCKERS. IT HAS A RPM AIR GAP INTAKE "POLISHED" WITH A 650CFM HOLLEY CARB, H.E.I & FORCE IGNITION BOX. MUTHA THUMPR CAM, TRUE DOUBLE ROLLER TIMING CHAIN, ALUMINUM .PULLEY'S ALONG WITH EVERYTHING ELSE. THIS THING SHOULD BE 400HP EASY. THE MOTOR STARTED GETTING A LITTLE WARM ABOUT HALF WAY TROUGH THE BREAK IN SO I CHOSE TO SHUT IT OFF, LET IT COOL & GET SOME MORE COOLANT IN IT AND ANOTHER FAN ON IT. TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK OF IT.

283ci Chevrolet small block rebuild
this 283 had a complete overhaul.
i replaced the camshaft with a summit cam .204in .214 ex duration .420 in .442ex lift
The Edelbrock intake i bought off of eBay.
all new valve train, the carburetor is so nice ran terrific. i like the trick summit dual feed fuel line with the gauge . you can tell when the fuel filter is getting bad with this thing on there. the heads are original 1965 power pack's this was a matching #'s engine
the pistons are .040 over speed pro forged flattops, with stock rods, stock crankshaft. installed the the points style distributor is a pertronix ignitor, with a flame thrower 35,000 volt coil. Behind the double roller timing chain is a thrust bearing to help the cam rev smoother. all new bearings throughout. clevette 77 oil pump
i sold it a year later for 1,500. the guy i sold it to says it still does not leak a drop of oil even after 4-5 years.
1964 327 Dyno Test
327 Chevy small block Dyno test.
Built for my 64 Impala that is being restored. Matching casting numbers, original looks, high torque and good manners were important.
Using the Dyno shop headers, it managed to get 420 torque and 378 horsepower using stock 327 block, heads, intake.
With the stock 2.5 inch cast iron Exhaust manifolds and 2.5 inch head pipes, 424 torque and 362 horsepower. Very little loss was attributed to the low flow rate of the stock intake manifold.
With the stock 2.5 inch cast iron Exhaust manifolds, 2.5 inch head pipes and a 2 inch reducer at the end (the stock Exhaust necks down from 2.5 to 2 inches) 404 torque and 351 horsepower.
With the stock 2.5 inch cast iron Exhaust manifolds, 2.5 inch head pipes and a 2 inch reducer at the end and the stock air cleaner/filter 410 torque and 362 horsepower.
1980 Chevy K20 1959 Cammed 283 Start 1st Run - Rough Choppy Idle
This is my 1980 K20 that I got without an engine in it. I had this rebuilt 283 laying around and decided to throw it in there. It is bored +.040, has Speed Pro forged flat top pistons, ARP rod bolts, ARP main studs, stock steel crank and rods, Melling standard volume/high pressure oil pump, Crane Z-Cam, L69 305 heads(416 casting), and a Summit intake with an Edelbrock Performer 600 CFM carb on top. The Exhaust is stock manifolds with y-pipe for now.
