BATMOBILE?! 1972 Buick Riviera 455 / 7.5L - startup, V8 sound, overview
Jamboolio records a highly customized 1972 Buick Riviera 2-Door Coupe with
the 7.5-liter 455 cid Big Block V8 engine.
This American muscle car classic has been modified with a two tone color
combination; orange and black, and also with huge chrome wheels.
Here's an overview of this gorgeous, almost Batmobile-like classic with a
very clean exterior, look into the engine bay, engine startup with loud Exhaust sound, and a few driving scenes,

9 Second Buick GSX Stage2 GS Stage1 9.51 @ 140
We originally built this car with Frank Urbinati back in 1996.It debuted at
the GS Nationals where it won the GS Pro Street class races. It was also
the 1st GS Pro Street class car to break into the 9's at the time.Thanks to
Frank this project came to life. Fast forward to 2010 and the car has been
taken over by Bob Ortolani,the car still looks great and Bob decided to
bring it up another level. We were happy to have the car come back to our
shop and to have the opportunity to work with Bob and put together the new
powerplant. The video shows the results of our 1st day out to tune the
engine. The 1st two passes were shakedowns to check fuel/oil pressures and
get a feel for the new combo. By the 3rd run we had posted a 9.62 @ 138
hitting the 7100rpm rev limiter chip! The 4th run was a 9.52 @ 140. On the
5th run it went 9.51 @ 140.65! After a good cool down and a timing
adjustment we were ready to try for a 9.40 run, launching right off idle
the car gave us a nice big unexpected wheelie! The wheelie sure lookes cool
but we know we can go quicker with a little more suspension work to
straighten out the launch and try to keep the front down. We're sure it'll
go into the 9.40's yet and maybe even 30's after everything is worked out.
Buick - History Documentary (1995)
This video is a wonderfully-done documentary, written and produced by
Michael Rose, on the history of Buick as presented in 1995 from the History
Channel's archive. Here is Michael's description of the video verbatim:
"No one would have believed that the tinkering of a plumber would turn into
the foundation of the world's largest corporation. But it did. David Dunbar
Buick invented a process to adhere porcelain to tubs and other bathroom
fixtures. But the Scottish immigrant dreamed of making a mark out of the
bathroom, and set to work building a car. By 1900, he enlisted the aid of
another inventor, Walter Marr, and they built their first vehicle. Their
invention attracted the attention of one of Michigan's wealthiest men,
William Crapo Durant, the president of the world's largest buggy-building
business. As soon as he drove one of Buick's early creations, Durant
realized that the days of the horse and buggy were over. He teamed up with
Buick, and the two went on to make history. By the thirties, Buicks were
regarded as some of the finest cars ever made. From the first Buicks
through the birth of General Motors and into history, this is the
compelling story of the partnership that eventually became the basis for
the largest company in the world."

This is a 908 horsepower Buick drag racing
engine built for Dave Huber from Menno South Dakota. To build the power
and keep it going oiling is controlled with restrictors, stand pipes,
external oil return lines, main girdle with studs, lifter bores and valley
strengthening with titaniun iron epoxy and other mods, competition porting
on the heads and a custom COMP Cam
1972 Buick Skylark
Here's an amazing survivor Skylark! It has a great running original 350ci
V8 and turbo 350 automatic transmission,
power steering, power disc brakes, factory air conditioning, and upgraded
dual Flowmaster Exhaust! Everything
under the hood is stock! It does have a new battery and new points though!
The interior is all original except the carpet has been replaced at some
point, and the dashboard remains unmolested and in complete working order.
All the lights, wipers, signals, and the blower are working great, it has
nice glossy green paint, and very nice glass. It has the original 14 inch
Buick wheels with 215/70/14 Firestone raised letter tires, and it is
believed to have only 81k miles on the car! This is a fantastic car that is
ready to be restored a little more!

1972 Buick Skylark
1972 Buick Skylark with a Hi-Compression Buick 350-4
I've had this car since October 8th 2010, I'm a senior in High School and
it is my first car, my dad payed for half of it and I payed for the other
half. I pay for the performance goodies that go into it and the occasional
parts that break too. I love driving this old monster even though premium
gas prices are outrageous but the rumble and roar of that massive V8 are
well worth it. I take pride in this car and my dad and I do most of the
work on it ourselves, it's somewhat of a father-son project. We've done
nothing but make this car a heck of a lot better than it was when we got
it. In the great words of GS Club of America, going fast with class, that's
what these Buicks do.
Stock HP: 175hp (for 1972 Buick 350-4 8.5:1 compression)
Rear-wheel HP: 226hp @ 4326 RPM (should be a little higher with the Hyfire
and Mallory coil)
Rear-wheel Tourqe: 307.8 lb-ft @ 3372 RPM (should also be a little higher)
Net HP: approx. 260hp
Compression: 9.5:1 (not sure, but definitely higher than stock because
without prem fuel I get spark knock with the correct fuel to air mixture)
Rear-end gears: 2.73:1 Open Differential (plan on getting a Limited Slip
Transmission: turbohydramatic 350 (with
a shift kit for fun :D)

After spending 33 years sitting outside in the desert, the broken down
Buick Special is revived by David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of HOT ROD
and Rick Pewe of 4-Wheel & Off-Road magazine.
Rick's mother bought the car when it was near new and parked it when the
transmission failed in 1978. In 2011, the guys spent two and a half days
wrenching on the car, with the hopes of driving it home from Phoenix to Los
Angeles. Come along for the ride and see what happens!
