Andrew Cowin Top Fuel -v- Allan Dobson Greene Machine - run 3 March 20 2004, Perth Motorplex
This is Andrew Cowin driving the Cowin Family Top Fueller -v- Allan Dobson in the Greene Machine - final run March 20 2004, Perth Motorplex. The run for Cowin was the end of a 3 race match racing dream when he fronted up against Allan Dobson driving Allan and Cheryl Greene's legendary "Greene Machine" Nitro Funny Car. Although the times on the run were a winning 5.25 for Cowin, and a 5.89 for Dobbo, both cars had their own things going on with both Dobbo and Cowin pulling massive wheelstands before Dobbo had a pedal and continued on, while Cowin lifted and aborted the run. The run also symbolised the end of Cowin Family Racing in Oz when the Cowin's then headed off to the US to follow their dreams over there on the NHRA circuit after this event. Ironically, years later, this exact car that Cowin is driving in this video ended up in Allan and Cheryl Greene's workshop years later, and Allan Dobson actually raced it and got his license in it, and is now known as Crank-n-Stein. So enjoy this ride, I certainly did and still do every time I watch this footage. On a personal note, the incrementals for Cowin on this run indicated a 4.5--something pass had it hooked up to the Perth Motorplex surface all the way, and still to this day is one of the wildest races I have ever filmed.
