A US-operated Antarctic cruise ship with 160 people aboard has lost an engine in high seas, but is limping safely to its scheduled port. The Argentine Navy said the Clelia II declared an emergency on Tuesday, reporting it had lost an engine amid heavy seas and 55 miles per hour (90 km per hour) winds. The ship, operated by Polar Cruises of Bend, Oregon, has 100 passengers and 60 crew members aboard. Log barges and tugs to China . Marine Accident waiting to Happen mp4
Rolling the dice on a marine calamity. Precatiously loaded log barges and tugs being sold for scrap to China on an old derelict semi submersible transport ship. This configuration wouldl be dangerous when ship is rolling amd pitching into swells and waves on its upcoming trip across the Pacific .If Canada Port Authority will allow this how can they be trusted not to allow contractors to cut corners regarding oil transport. and tanker safety in the harbour . This also signifies the beginning of the end of a liquidation era for forestry on the coast.and the creating of a monopoly by a large multinational as it sells tugs for scrap. thus killing competition by keeping the tugs out of the hands of smaller independent operators. As an update the ship was asked and forced to take the much longer but safer southerly route to China. On the southerly route they generally experienced a following 9 foot sea but still had two mishaps where two tugs fell of their cradels onto the deck of the barge carrying them. had they taken the northerly route they might have encountered a storm pushing up 35 foot waves.
