Nissan GT-R Spec V (R35)
[What is SPEC V?] The concept of base GT-R is "the fastest vehicle for anyone, at anytime, under any condition". As proven, base GT-R is already fast on race tracks, but there are compromising in some aspects because it was designed for driving fast on winding roads and highways also. SpecV is a model that is completely focused on race tracks. Below are some the differences of Spec V from base GT-R. - No rear seats - 60kg lighter body (carbon fiber bucket seats, interior, rear wing) - High Gear Boost Controller - Titan Exhaust System - New Suspension Setting - Carbon Ceramic Brakes [More Description from Wikipedia] Nissan introduced the GT-R SpecV on January 7, 2009 at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon. Exterior changes from the base GT-R consist of a carbon fiber rear spoiler, grille, and brake ducts, along with an exclusive Ultimate Black Opal paint job. Interior changes include a set of carbon fiber Recaro front seats with the rear seats being completely removed. Carbon fiber covers the center storage box, instrument panel, and replaces the majority of the interior trim. The GT-R SpecV is powered by the standard twin-turbo 3,799 cc (3.8 L; 231.8 cu in) V6 with no increase in horsepower. A new high gear Boost controller that allows a temporary increase in Boost pressure to the IHI twin turbochargers, now larger than those on the standard GT-R, should deliver more torque in mid to high-range revs. Other mechanical changes include a titanium Exhaust, reworked suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and 20-inch (510 mm) NISMO wheels. Overall weight is decreased by 132 lb (60 kg) over the standard GT-R. Japan sales began on February 2, 2009 at seven pre-selected dealers who are staffed by mechanics with special GT-R SpecV training and are knowledgeable of racing circuit driving. Pricing is set at ¥15,750,000 (over US$160,000). Nissan has yet to announce any plans to sell the Spec V in the USA. Honda NSX Concept-GT
Photos: https://www.facebook.com/JDM.clips What if you are the only one who has the wrong tool to fight with, while everyone else has something right? This is exactly the situation Honda is about to face in the 2014 Super GT series. Chassis of DTM is purely designed for FR racing cars - a chassis destined to work when an engine is mounted on the front. But Honda will put engine on the rear to make it MR, and even add a racing hybrid system to it. Why do this? Most people think that Honda just wants to race with a vehicle of features that their new NSX will have. Well, that's not everything. The extreme kind of race cars, like the ones in Super GT or DTM, are almost never built over their production model cars. An engineer of Nissan in Super GT series says that the only real common part between GT500 GT-R and the production R35 is the "door knob". All other parts of the vehicle are mere imitation of the production model just to keep the resemblance. Race cars in these categories are created with completely different materials, developed by a different team, and built in a different factory. There almost nothing in common between the two cars. With that in mind, we are close to understanding what is Honda trying to do with this NSX Concept-GT. Mount an engine on the rear of FR chassis, add a hybrid racing system of their own, and still race trying to compete with others with better condition. The race is not actually about the car itself, but it is the place where manufactures and teams show their spirit of challenge, test their own ideas and skills, to prove who is the best in creating new things. If you are complaining about NSX Concept-GT having a 2.0L engine, or becoming smaller in size compared to HSV, you are only seeing the surface of this race. I recommend that you go see a production car race. It's true that currently Honda is lacking lineup of sports cars. But it's only about the production cars, and they have never abandoned their spirit in racing. After 2009 when they stopped producing S2000, they came up with HSV that does not exist anywhere in the world except on race track. They fought equally to Toyota and Nissan and won series championship. Now with the new NSX-GT in 2014, they will start a new story of challenge. Let's not just see "what they make", but also see "how they think" to improve their unique race car and fight against other manufactures. Hopefully in the near future, they'll produce a new sports car filled with that spirit. The Honda show is about to start!
