Jetta Takes on Prius: Toyota Prius vs. VW Jetta TDI Diesel
MORE ON HYBRID VS. DIESEL @ INSIDELINE.COM:
We were locked in mortal combat, just as adrenaline-addled Leonidas and
hubris-filled Xerxes met at the Battle of Thermopylae, when a relative
handful of highly specialized Spartans held off a seemingly bottomless
torque-pit of Persians for seven excruciating days.
Here we have the 2009 Toyota Prius gasoline-electric hybrid, embodying
up-to-the-minute fuel-sipping methods and machinery intended to take us
immaculately into a spotless future. In the other lane, the newly
introduced 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI turbodiesel, a rolling relic of tried-and-true
yester-tech locomotion (upon whose sooty breath the Industrial Revolution
itself was built) that has been remastered, reengineered and reintroduced
to be meaner, cleaner and more efficient than ever.
But the battle left us weary — done in by the struggle and tired of each
other like Siamese twins on prom night.
New 2012 Honda Civic
Honda has launched the new Civic at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show. Developed
specifically for the European market, the Civic will be offered exclusively
as a five-door hatchback and will compete in the C-segment, the heart of
European Car market. It will reach European showrooms in early 2012. The
designers of the new Civic wanted to keep the sporty and advanced elements
of the car's character but tailor them to express the new model's even more
elegant yet dynamic feel. In the build-up to the reveal of the new Civic,
Honda has released a series of short form films detailing its development.
The fourth of these films focuses on the design and quality.

2012 Toyota Prius Test Drive & Hybrid Car Review
http://www.autobytel.com/toyota/prius/2012/ There is really only one car
that comes to mind when the subject of hybrid cars comes up. The Toyota
Prius was the car that changed the game when it came to fuel economy. The
design of the 2012 Toyota Prius is meant to help the car slip through the
air as easily as possible. Less drag directly results in better fuel
economy which is why many hybrid vehicles on the road today have the same
wedge shape as the Toyota Prius. In fact the 0.25 drag coefficient on the
2012 Prius is one of the lowest figures of any mainstream vehicle. Toyota
engineers have spent countless hours in the wind tunnel so that you can go
further with less fuel. The base model Prius starts at $23,015 with the top
of the line model going for just under $30,000.
The 2012 Toyota Prius is powered by Toyota's famous Hybrid Synergy Drive
System which is comprised of a 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine and an electric
motor. The Atkinson Cycle engine is good for 98 horsepower and the added
electric motor makes and additional 36 HP bringing the total power on the
2012 Toyota Prius up to 134 horsepower. There is a
Continuously Variable Transmission that helps in the fuel economy
department. The Prius also has a start-stop system and can run on electric
power alone up to 15 MPH. These fuel saving tactics combined with the low
drag coefficient and efficient engine allow the 2012 Toyota Prius Hybrid to
get 51 MPG in the city and 48 MPG on the highway.
You know what you are getting into when you get behind the wheel of a
Toyota Prius. You are going to have full electric operation at low speeds,
a little bit of noise once the gas engine is engaged, and an overall smooth
driving experience. There is nothing sporty or exciting about driving the
2012 Toyota Prius. The main reason you buy one of these hybrids is for the
outstanding fuel economy and the Prius delivers. And if you are looking at
buying a hybrid vehicle the Toyota Prius is still the king.
