1975 MERCURY COUGAR XR7 -- MORE PLUSH THAN THE THUNDERBIRD
Now here's a keeper. This factory-new conditioned Cougar XR7 finished in Bronze Gold Diamond Fire paint is the only Cougar model produced this year and only in hardtop form. The XR7 was meant to be an upgrade from the personal luxury car Thunderbird and it was. The XR7 was powered by a by a V8, 351 cid / 148 - 150 hp. engine. Though the T-Bird had a V8, 460 cid / 194 hp., by far a larger engine, the Cougar offered a plush interior. Most likely this trend was to keep the loyal Cougar fans on board. I supposed it worked, for Cougars outsold T-Bird by ten thousand units this year with a total of 62,987. The XR7 had a suggested retail price of $5,218. I think this XR7 example is clean and like new and noticed all of the enrichment of it's looks both outside and inside. I always admired those vinyl landau roofs and opera windows. This is a video of the start up of my built up ported PI engine, the Exhaust system, and a short drive off. This build took about a year in total, gathering parts, rebuilding the heads and putting it all together. I still need to get it Dynotuned but that will be for later on. It runs on 94 octane as I want to avoid pinging until i get a tune done. It was fun to see it all come together. Was a lot of work but I never gave up on the project. The Audio level is different in some clips as I used a different camera for them.

96 Mercury Cougar 4.6V8 Acceleration and New Camera Audio Test
As requested by Fatguywithakatana, a quick blast down the road in our 96 Mercury Cougar XR7. The car is equipped with the 4.6 SOHC V8, four-speed automatic, and a limited slip rear end. This was a test to find out if my new camera could handle the volume of driving down the road. It seems to have faired much better than my old camera.
