# 2 -Historic Grand National Stock Cars- AAA Auto Club NASCAR 2-21-2010
More vintage footage of the NASCAR Historic Grand National Stock Cars but this time they fire-'em up so you can hear them like they were. Nothing sounds better than a NASCAR engine!!! You have to give this group a slap on the back to keep these ready to race and remind us of NASCAR's past that most of us grew up on.

Fred Lorenzen's 1966 Ford Factory NASCAR Stock Car
This is the real deal. Owned by Jeff Ray. This car is very documented as the car that Fred Lorenzen drove at the 1966 Daytona 500. The engine is the real Holman and Moody Ford 427 NASCAR race engine of the same vintage.
Vintage Racing - 1950s Indy Cars startup and race. LOUD!!!
Chris Ashworth records a series of 1950s Indy Cars at Michigan International Speedway. This was a vintage racing event that was associated with the Concours d'elegance of America, where these cars were on display after this event.
This event was incredible! I got to wander in the pits and the garage area. You will hear these cars starting up right from the tailpipes, and you will see them driving on the track from the pits.

Daytona 500, 1960, 2nd Ever Running at the Speedway
This is a film clip taken from a reel-to-reel project that I produced for an outside family that happened to attend the 2nd ever running of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. The quality is not that great - but it is in color, which is quite unique for the day and age in which this footage was shot (the family was wealthy and actually flew their own plane to Daytona).
Besides watching for the guy picking his nose in the middle of the video, things to look for are the early days of the original Tower at the Tri-Oval, the clear view of the backstretch from the main grandstand, the infield void of the garages, the proximity of the grandstands to the fence, and of course, the cars.
I'm sure there is a list of the drivers in this race somewhere on the internet, but I didn't hunt it down. Might be fun to find if you want to match the few car numbers to the driver name.
The Blue Angels performed prior to the race start too.
This is a very nostalgic look at the early start of Nascar.
DEC 2008 REVISION: To those of you who think this is NOT the Daytona 500, let me direct your attention to this line up: http://www.racing-reference.info/race?s=2&series=W&id=1960-05 At 1:01 of this clip, you will see #22 Fireball Ball Roberts enter the frame at the #3 starting position. There is no more credible proof than that!
#2 9-7-86 Richmond Wrangler Indigo 400 Nascar Racing
1986 Wrangler Indigo 400 Nascar Racing This is second video to watch. Good action and fun to see the old really race cars that still looked like factory cars. Fast pit speeds and excellent racing.

I do not claim any ownership over the copyrights to this video. It was recorded off the TV around 1995 and I have not seen it anywhere since, so I thought I would share it with the world. This video has not been monetized and therefore I am not earning revenue from it.
