250 bhp, 3,430 cc inline SOHC six-cylinder engine, five-speed manual
transmission, independent coil-over-strut front suspension, independent
coil spring semi-trailing arm rear suspension, and four-wheel power
hydraulic disc brakes. Wheelbase: 103.3 in.
In factory nomenclature, "E9," the BMW 3.0 CS Coupe, was a Karmann-built
two-door based on the New Class 2000CS. Enlarged to accommodate the M30
engine from the E3 sedan, it had appeared first in 2.8-liter guise. In all,
4,455 were built from 1971 to 1974. A 3.0 CSL special homologation version
for the European Touring Car Championship competition enhanced BMW's
reputation as a manufacturer of sporting automobiles.
This car received an extensive cosmetic and mechanical restoration at La
Jolla Independent BMW in California, in 2010. At that time, many
performance and convenience upgrades were undertaken, including the
installation of a rebuilt 3.5-liter engine, a new BMW 265 five-speed
transmission, a limited slip differential, and a major suspension rebuild.
The engine has a new head and a completely rebuilt bottom end with new
pistons. The suspension was rebuilt with Carl Nelson lowering springs,
Suspension Techniques sway bars, new control arms, and new Bilstein shock
A BMW E30 electric sunroof was retrofitted, along with Euro bumpers, a 3.0
CSL front air dam, and 5-Series window motors. The air conditioning was
upgraded to a Sanden compressor and converted to R-134a refrigerant. In the
process, all body seals and gaskets were replaced, the body meticulously
prepped and painted in a handsome deep grey metallic.
Convenience upgrades include a Nardi steering wheel, a quartz clock
conversion, a Becker Europa AM/FM stereo radio modified for iPod and
satellite radio operation, and the installation of a hidden Garmin Zumo 665
GPS with Bluetooth and weather function. The tan leather interior was
restored by Juan Ortiz, of Ortiz Auto Trim in Costa Mesa. The Alpina
turbine-style wheels carry Sumitomo P225/50R16 blackwall radial tires.
Having covered fewer than 1,000 miles since the restoration, the car is in
exceptional condition, showing just minor evidence of recent use.
Presenting a stunning appearance, it demonstrates excellent performance,
due to its upgraded drivetrain, and modern convenience, a result of its
high-tech electronics and modifications. Ideal for touring, it is equally
enjoyable in town or the city.

1973 BMW 3.0CS for Sale: Custom CS/M6 Conversion
Visit http://sanfranciscosportscars.com/1973-bmw-30cs-silver/ to see this
amazing 1973 BMW 3.0 CS for sale from San Francisco Sports Cars.
This 1973 BMW 3.0 CS/M6 "Hotrod" has only 25k original miles from new, with
no rust ever! Silver exterior with blue leather. This 2 owner California
car is the most amazing 3.0 CS you could ever imagine. Owner #1 bought new
in Mill Valley, California from Mellow Motors the authorized dealer of the
day, he sold the car to owner #2 in 1982 and he has owned ever since!
The story regarding the conversion is that owner #2 was out for a spirited
drive one sunny California day and had a BMW 2002 Tii pass him and leave
him behind, he loved his CS but was unwilling to think he would be beaten
again by a lesser vehicle so started to formulate a plan to gain the much
needed HP he was looking for. After agonizing over this dilemma for quite
some time, he opened a car magazine one day in 1987 only to see that BMW
had launched the new for 1988 M6 coupe. He knew this was the answer to his
problem so he set out looking for a motor/gearbox for this brand new model.
It didn't take him long to find an M6 that had an accident and he purchased
the car post haste.

Saratoga Auto Museum: BMW Vintage

This past Saturday may have been a burning hot summer day, but that didn't
stop some of the best Bimmers in New England from turning up at the BMW
Vintage show in Saratoga Springs, New York. Held on the grounds of the
Saratoga Automobile Museum, this show managed to attract the rarest of the
rare, including a track-prepped E9 3.0CSL, the BMW Z1 featured before in my
videos, a beautiful 1600GT, a period-correct E12 (down to the Blaupunkt
equalizer beside the stereo) and seven Baur 3-series cars (six E21s, one
E30) - one of the largest groups in one spot. In all, a fantastic day for
any Bimmer enthusiast.
