Basic Engine Building DVD - Chapter 25: Cylinder Block
By this time your block is disassembled and in the machine shop. One of the
most informative sections, here we take you behind the scenes to show what
goes on while your away. We show the process of align honing the main
bearing bore that is needed before anything else can be machined. Then the
block deck is leveled and machined as needed for the new head gaskets to
seat properly. And finally the cylinder walls are bored out just shy of
their new size, which will be achieved when they're honed.

UPDATE!! 1997 nissan s14 kouki sr20det build (part2) with dyno video!
*skip to 18:18 to see video of the car running
*skip to 24:53 for Dyno video
so after my last video the car ran good for about 2 weeks. long story
short, the tune that my last shop did set my motor up for detonation so
cylinder #1 dropped a significant amount of compression. the other 3 did as
well but not to such a degree.
it took me around 7-8 months to gather enough money to go with forged
internals rather than OEM.
i was on the verge of purchasing all the parts when i came across what i
thought was too good to be true.
someone in north carolina had a nice 1996 nissan 240se shell and fully
built block for sale. he was asking right around what it would of cost me
to rebuild my motor and considering i was getting a entire car and many
aftermarket parts with it, it was a no-brainer for me... I WAS SOLD!
here are SOME of the parts included with the 1996 240 shell:
-Freddy intake manifold/$140
FULLY ASSEMBLED BLOCK (BLUEPRINTED AND RACE BALANCED)
-9:1 forged cp pistons $470
-Brian crower 1200hp "I beam extreme" 19mm GT-R +625 ARP hardware/ $630
-ACL race rod and main bearings /$121.60

Ben Bray Nissan Altima SR20 turbo
Delving deeper into the world of sport compact racing, Group 1 Doorslammer
pilot Ben Bray's new Nissan Altima certainly looks the goods. With only one
test session prior to Jamboree the guys were able to take out the final of
the Pro Compact class with a cracking 7.10/196mph pass from the SR20 power
plant. Upgrades include a billet engine block, VVL cylinder head, Garrett
GT47 turbo, MoTeC M800 computer, Siemens
injectors, Racepack V500 data acquisition and a Lenco gearbox.
The car has since run as quick as 6.94 at 197mph.
SR20DET NVCS gone bad
These are the sounds a badly worn NVCS sprocked is making in a fully build
Nissan SR20DET Black Top engine. NVCS sprocket had aprox 170.000km on it
when it started to go from fairly unnoticable to plain bad during a course
of about 1500km. It is happening because the rubber seals inside it starts
to fail. You could buy a new sprocket which could last next 150.000km, or
15.000km (and the sound is back). There are some reports of people
succesfully replacing the rubber seals for cheap fix tho. Even with the
sounds the performance of the engine remained the same.
NVCS stands for Nissan Variable Cam System.
I hope this video will help people with similar problems identify the weird
sounds our engines are making from time to time. Other similar sounds may
be produced by bad lifters, main bearings, timing chain and the solenoid
activating the NVCS. You will find a lot more information about these
issues in various forums around the internet.
Sorry about the poor mobile phone video quality.

SR20DET ARP Main Stud Kit 202-5402 Test
This is a known issue with the Early model S13 SR20DET - In this video we
are testing the late model S13 SR20DET Blacktop.
Visit my website for Free FSM Downloads as well as more videos and DVDs!
I highly recommend to not modify the upper oil pan to fix this issue as it
is real easy to crack, drill too deep and basically ruin your oil pan!
If you don't feel you have the time or tools to service your main studs -
check out www.JDS-Performance-Parts.com to purchase a serviced pair or send
your in for servicing!
///Update/// In this video I state when installing the main studs "when
they bottom out" - Well they actually do not bottom out - the stud stops on
the block where the threads end. Undercut studs would solve this issue but
there has been talk that the undercut studs are not as strong and in some
cases pull the threads out on the block.
11 Second Nissan 240SX SR20DET Dyno Runs
!!!!! - DO NOTE VISIT THE WEBSITE AT THE END - !!!!!
I no longer own that website, and it was made into a porn site. I have no
affiliation with it!!!
I wanted to get a baseline Dyno run in before installing my
built motor. This is a completely stock SR20DET with a larger turbo, injectors and supporting mods. Stock cams,
stock head gasket, everything inside is OEM. It also has a very poor tune,
one other reason why it has low numbers. However, I did manage to run an
11.95 @ 114 MPH with this setup so far...
