Hilux Invincible

Thomson Reuters Eikon Polar being built in Iceland
In December 2011 a three man team will set out in one of our Arctic Trucks built vehicles with the aim of beating the old Guinness World Record set in 2005 going from Patriot Hills to South Pole in under 3 days with an average speed of nearly 16km/h to mark the 100 years anniversary of the first successful attempt by Roald Amundsen. The challenge is to improve the current Guinness World Record, driving from Patriot Hills on the Antarctica coast to the South Pole, over 1100 km distance each way The vehicle used for this attempt is an AT44 built on Toyota Tacoma with a unique styling by Ian Nisbett Design. Arctic Trucks International (www.arctictrucks.com) announced today that a new world record of the fastest overland journey to the South Pole has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records. In December 2010 two Arctic Trucks vehicles crossed 2308km of the Antarctica High Plateau from Novolazarevskaya station (Novo) to the South Pole in 108 hours (4.5 days). The purpose-built AT Expedition vehicles, based around a Toyota Hilux platform, traveled at an average speed to South Pole of 21.4km/h and average fuel efficiency of 2.2km/per liter, with only a single refueling stop on the way. An unofficial improvement on the record itself was achieved for the return journey, which was faster still at only 3.5 days, averaging 27.5km/h. No comparable speed or fuel efficiency has ever been recorded for high plateau expeditions in Antarctica. Arctic Trucks built vehicles have now clocked over eighty thousand kilometers on the plateau, proving new benchmarks for speed, range, reliability and fuel efficiency for overland travel in this area. The two Arctic Trucks vehicles used for this round trip were both Arctic Trucks Expedition AT44 models. Arctic Trucks designs and builds these vehicles based around the Toyota Hilux 3.0 liter turbo diesel. In the mountains with Arctic Trucks
Gisli an Arctic Trucks engineer playing around and testing the suspension on his newly developed Tacoma with 44inch tires. Filmed in Iceland on Lyngdalsheidi and in the area of Kerlingarfjoll. The snow conditions where favoralble during the filming but was very difficult the day before. The Tacoma outperformed all the others.

Jeep Rubicon and Toyota FJ Cruiser Off-Road in Hawaii
We witnessed first hand the capabilities of both vehicles on the trails. I'm personally a Toyota guy, having owned several Toyota 4x4s, an FJ and now a Tacoma. They aren't evenly matched because the Jeeps articulation and flexibility with the solid front axle, shorter wheel base and being lighter weight. Driver experience, error and patience were also contributing factors in how each vehicle performed. We didn't create this video to make one seam better than the other. Ohana Trails is a Jeep Club here that we were filming and by chance, a group of FJ Cruiser owners were convoying with them. Unfortunately, we had more video of the Jeeps over the FJ's. All in all it was an epic day up in the mountains at Peacock Flats on Oahu looking over the North Pacific. HD video produced by FreedomRiding.com Music: "Pedestrian" by O-shen
