Nostalgia NHRA Drag Racing 1966 World Finals in Tulsa Oklahoma. The final round in Super Eliminator matching me against Al Berglar at 5:50 minutes into this video. Keith Jackson is the narrator. Hard to believe that this was 46 years ago!
1978 NHRA Sportsnationals
The late, great, Modified eliminator. If you've never witnessed Modified
Production and Gas-class cars in action, you really missed drag racing's
most exciting era!
Sure, drag cars are making more horsepower and torque than
ever, with resulting quicker and faster ET's and MPH, but the sounds of these
high rpm, manual shift race cars--sans any electronic rev limiters--is no
longer around. Ditto for the mean sounding/cool looking dry hops, as the
cars approach the start line (after the burnout) is unfortunately, a thing
of the past.
Top Gear, Jeremy goes Drag Racing
Top Gear clip from about 1992. Jeremy Clarkson testing a GMC Syclone pickup
and drag racing at York Raceway. Sorry about the wobbles at the beginning,
he's not very good on a bike. Enjoy
AHRA/PRA National Challenge '72 Tulsa (3 of 3)
In 1972 Don Garlits and the Professional Racers Association along with Jim
Tice and the AHRA teamed up to stage a drag race at Tulsa International
Raceway the same weekend as the NHRA held their US Nationals at Indy as a
protest to the NHRA to up their winners purses for the Pro classes. It was
probably the biggest all-Pro drag race in the history of the sport. Top
Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock had over 60 entries each. At the end of the
Labor Day weekend Don Moody took Top Fuel, Tom McEwen took Funny Car and
Bill Grumpy Jenkins took the Pro Stock win.
This silent cine film footage is from Antony Billinton's drag racing
archives and I think it was originally taken by Bob Phelps.
