Event: IndyCar – Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Date: Sunday, April 9th, 2017; 4:00 PM ET Location: Streets of Long Beach, CA TV: NBCSN $$$ BET the IndyCar Series Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach NOW : The oldest street race in North America, The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach will take place Sunday, April 9th, 2017 at 4:00 PM ET, 1pm on the west coast, and the race runs the cars through the city Streets of Long Beach, CA The Toyota Grand Prix was first run in 1984 under the CART/Champ Car banner, but open-wheel cars have been coming here since 1975, the race can be seen on NBCSN The street circuit in Long Beach is 1.968 miles (3.167 km) long and is comprised of 11 turns. It starts out with a fast semi straight section that bends slightly to the right going down into Turn 1, which is a left-hand turn that is almost 90 degrees. The section between Turns 11 and 1 is the longest straight section on the track, and drivers will look to get as much speed as they can and possibly pass before slowing down going back into the first turn Brazil’s Helio Castroneves won the pole and led the most laps with 47 last season, while Charlie Kimball of the United States ran the fastest lap. The race was won by France’s Simon Pagenaud for his first victory of the 2016 season, leading 28 laps after starting third on the grid. He was followed by American Scott Dixon, Colombia’s Juan Pablo Montoya, Helio Castroneves and Japan’s Takuma Sato , AND 4 of the top 5 drivers also started in the top 5 on the grid; the lone exception was Brazil’s Tony Kanaan, who started fourth, but finished sixth. The leader for wins in Long Beach is American Al Unser Jr., who won 6 times. Canadian Paul Tracy won 4 times, while American Mario Andretti won 3 times, as did France’s Sebastien Bourdais.
