The Top 5 Fastest Cars accelerating in AutoBahn Germany 2017
Buying a fast car today is shockingly easy: in top V-6 spec, even the stolid, workaday Toyota Camry will hit 129 mph—and that's an electronically-limited top speed. But, like the difference between your self-professed Crossfit "athlete" friend and, say, an Olympic wrestler, it's one thing to be ready for an autobahn sprint at a moment's notice and another to hold the title of Fastest Car in the World. At the most elite level, current numbers even for production cars are approaching the ludicrous: zero-to-60 mph times are thumping on the two-second floor, and whereas it took more than a century after the invention of the automobile to hit the 200-mph mark in a road-legal production car (that honor belonging to the Ferrari F40, which in 1987 topped out at a tick over 202 mph), just thirty years after that the new Bugatti Chiron can reportedly go straight from the dealer showroom to 261 mph—suggesting 300 mph is not too far down the road. So, who's making cars go as fast as they can possibly go while still offering things like air conditioning and stereos and, you know, warranties? It's a list of who's-who in the high-end European performance car world, with familiar names like Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Bugatti. No surprises there, though the appearance of one rejuvenated, iconic supercar from a stalwart Detroit badge was a pleasant surprise. To keep things on the level, there are some conditions for inclusion on this list. First, it has to be a street-legal production car (by reasonable definition) from a major manufacturer—so a low-volume or limited edition version of an existing car is fine, but a one-off or aftermarket-tuned experiment doesn't count, nor does a dedicated track specialist like, say, a Ferrari FXX K. Next, it has to be new: only model year 2017 cars or newer will be considered. Last, since this is a broad survey of the current state of speed, only one car from a given brand will be included; if a badge has several vehicles that could conceivably make this 205-mph-and-up list, only the fastest vehicle will rank. As the ballers say, Fast Don't Lie. Here are the fastest production cars in the world right now. 2017.

2018 BMW M5 (600 hp) - 0-100 kmh Acceleration, Start Up, Revs & Track Action
2018 BMW M5 (600 hp) - 0-100 kmh Acceleration, Start Up, Revs & Track Action. Providing ample power for the new BMW M5 is a 4.4-litre V8 bi-turbo engine with M TwinPower turbo technology. The M engineers have carried out significant revisions to the outgoing model’s power unit. For example, newly developed turbochargers, ultra-efficient indirect charge air cooling and increased fuel injection pressure together help to raise output and, above all, torque. The engine develops 441 kW/600 hp at 5,600 – 6,700 rpm, while a monumental 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque is placed at the driver’s disposal from as low down as 1,800 rpm and remains there until 5,600 rpm. A map-controlled, fully variable oil pump ensures oil is supplied as and when the new BMW M5 needs it, even on the track. The car’s impressive performance figures speak for themselves: 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 11.1 seconds (124 mph). Top speed, meanwhile, is an electronically limited 250 km/h (155 mph), but the optional M Driver’s Package can keep the fun coming to 305 km/h (189 mph). Unlike the regular 5-series, the 2018 M5 is more of a revolution than its sheetmetal suggests. It’s the first M5 with all-wheel drive and without an option for a manual transmission. BMW’s M xDrive is rear biased and funnels torque through an electronically controlled limited-slip differential similar to those on the X5 M and X6 M SUVs. In the M5, though, the system can disconnect the front axle for true rear-wheel-drive hooliganism that, from our brief experience in a prototype, makes this 4350-pound (our estimate) lug feel like an E90 M3. Even in regular mode, the all-wheel-drive setup will allow the rears to slip slightly for douchebag-safe maneuvers on public streets. In 4WD Sport with the stability control set to M Dynamic, slip angles widen, and more torque routes to the active (but non-torque-vectoring) rear differential. For those times when you really want to burn through the last 1/32 of tread, the M5’s stability control is fully defeatable in rear-wheel-drive mode. All that tire smoke comes courtesy of the familiar S63 twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8, fortified with 24.0 psi of Boost and increased capacity of the direct-injection system. More efficient Intercoolers, a revised oil pump, and a new Exhaust manifold spring the twin-scroll turbos into immediate action. The net result is 600 horsepower (identical to the final special editions of the F10 M5) and 553 lb-ft of torque (up 37 lb-ft), a peak that is maintained from 1800 rpm to the power peak at 5700 rpm (550 revs sooner than the 30 Jahre M5). Those ratings might have been shocking a decade earlier but now are the minimum the M5 needs against the 605-hp Audi RS7, the 603-hp Mercedes-AMG E63, the 550-hp Porsche Panamera turbo, the 640-hp Cadillac CTS-V, and the 707-hp Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. But with an estimated zero-to-60-mph time of 3.2 seconds and a claimed 189-mph top speed with the optional M Driver’s package, the new M5 will positively shear the doors off the accountant’s 530i, shred the comptroller’s 540i, and melt the lawyer’s M550i. Corporate America has never been fiercer. Read More http://www.caranddriver.com/bmw/m5
