Wild Racing Action - 2013 June Sprints - Spec Racer Ford
Follow the Craftlogic Racing Spec Racer Ford piloted by Denny Stripling
through a crazy race including a botched start, a lap 1 wreck, a run from
13th to 1st, and some last lap chicanery (contact) costing me a shot at the
win. Never a dull moment at Road America with SRF's!
Make sure you watch in 1080p on the largest screen possible. Enjoy!
CoTA SRF Race 1 85 cars!
Circuit of the Americas, Spec Racer Ford race from Saturday, March 9, 2013.
85 SRF's took the green flag and almost all of them saw the checkered. This
was the first ever SRF race on the track. The facility and the track itself
are amazing. Instant classics and among the best in North America.
This battle is between the top 4 cars, Stripling (camera), Verges
(blue/white), Futrelle (blue/black), and Harris (red).
This video shows all but one lap (Stripling leading, not much to see)
including all of the passes and near-passes.
Around 23:45 is where it all goes wrong for me. Radiator fluid on track, I
lifted when the leader hit it which caused me to tank slap badly, putting
me off the exit. That was compounded when my downshift to 3rd became a
momentary upshift to 5th. Then I thought we could go 2-wide into T20 but
that wasn't to be, putting me off on the astroturf for braking, which is
From there I just had to put my head down and run the top 3 back down in
two laps... you can see the results on the vid.
Hopefully the thought bubbles aren't too much.

Skip Barber 2-Day Advanced Racing School
The first lap shown here was early in the morning on Day 2 of the school.
My lines were decent, though the speed really needed to come up throughout
the course. The second lap was right after lunch that day. The speed has
come up overall, though there is definitely still room for improvement.
Later in the day, I was doing much better through corners 10, 16, and 17
and lap times were accordingly much better. Unfortunately, I didn't have
the camera on the car for those sessions. Alas!
Anyone considering a Skip Barber school should just do it! I've spent much
of the last twenty years in aviation, including homebuilts, warbirds, and
aerobatics, and the two Skip programs I've taken have been about the most
fun I've ever had.
Can't wait to go racing!!
How To Drive a Fast Lap of Sebring - /SHAKEDOWN
Leo Parente, host of ShakeDown, shares track notes of how to drive the
Sebring 12hr race course. With the help of racers he has known, an
interview with 2012 winner - Allan McNish, and an in-car lap that Madison
Snow drove in his Platinum Class Porsche IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama
racecar, ShakeDown breaks down the 3.7 mile track, corner by corner. If
you like, we can do more tracks as part of the ShakeDown University racer
skills training series.

2 Fast Laps at Sebring by Vic in a Miata
Vic drives my TTD 165rwhp Rotrex supercharged Miata in TTC. He crushes
the TTD track record and had the fastest time in TTC ... at least he
would have if the timers were working :(. Lap times are from onboard
GPS lap timer.
2011 SCCA Pro Racing Spec Racer Ford Series @ Road Atlanta
race 1 Richard Spicer, of Laurel, Md., started third and raced to the front
of the SCCA Pro Racing Spec Racer Ford Round Nine race on Sunday morning at
Road Atlanta, the first of two Sunday races to finish the season. Franklin
Futrelle, of Augusta, Ga., and Tray Ayres, of Woodstock, Ga., completed the
Spicer's No. 65 Spicer Race Engines/Hagerman Engineering Spec Racer Ford
moved from third on the grid and into the lead by lap four, just in time
for a long caution period after the No. 90 Apple Motorsports Spec Racer
Ford of Bob Gilbert and the No. 81 Dinosaur Racing Spec Racer Ford of Mark
Vultaggio made contact, knocking both out of the race and spreading debris
across the race track.
race 2 Tray Ayres, from nearby Woodstock, Ga., earned a victory in the SCCA
Pro Racing Spec Racer Ford season finale on Sunday afternoon at Road
Atlanta. Scott Rettich, of Camden, Ohio, finished in the runner-up position
to clinch his second-consecutive series title, with John Greene, of
Gainesville, Ga., completing the podium.
Ayres started on pole in the No. 7 Ayers Racing Spec Racer Ford and led 17
of 20 laps in the race on his way to a 0.241-second victory over Rettich,
averaging 90.080 mph in the 50.8-mile race. Ayres also turned the fastest
lap of the race on the 2.54-mile circuit in 1:40.583 (90.910 mph).
The top two finishers survived heavy attrition and were left alone to
battle for the win on the last several laps, with Ayres holding off a
challenge from Rettich's No. 17 Alliance Autosport/Springboro Car Wash Spec
Racer for the victory.
