The A4 was really the car that in the late 1990's revitalized the Audi brand. Audi has been way ahead of the curve when it comes to the compact luxury sedan segment. The A4 has long had a small displacement fuel efficient engine and permanent Quattro AWD. Its just recently that the offerings from BMW and Mercedes-Benz at this level come with the options previously mentioned. The base model front wheel drive 2012 Audi A4 costs $32,500 with the top of the line Prestige model costing at $44,100. The 2012 Audi A4 is powered by a turbocharged and direct injected 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 2011 horsepower and 258 lb-ft. of torque. The A4 comes in either front wheel drive or all wheel drive formats. The AWD system is called Quattro which has been around since 1980. Transmission choices are a 6-speed manual, CVT, or an advanced 8-speed automatic called Tiptronic. Fuel economy varies depending on transmission and what driveline configuration you choose. The FWD A4 with the Multitronic CVT gets 21 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. Inside the A4 the driver and passengers are treated to a high-end luxurious experience. The surfaces are covered in genuine leather and you can choose between wood or aluminum trim pieces. Audi is known for having one of the most technologically advanced media systems. The MMI or Multi-Media Interface is available on the 2012 Audi A4. This unit is a 7" touch screen navigation system located in the dash. MMI not only offers navigation but you can control other systems like the stereo and Bluetooth connection just to name a few. Speaking of stereo, the Audi A4 has an optional 14-speaker 505 watt Premium Bang & Olufsen Sound System. The Audi A4 was named a 2012 IIHS Top Safety pick. The A4 has six airbags including front and side impact. There is an Electronic Stability Control system that uses ABS and traction control to help keep the driver safe and keep the car on the road. The passenger cabin is made from high-strength steel with crumple zones that work together to keep the occupants safe in the event of a crash. The compact luxury sedan segment is packed full of great vehicles. But Audi has a leg up on the competition since they offer a vehicle with a fuel efficient engine, an 8-speed transmission, Quattro AWD, and tons of luxurious features and amenities.
