1989 Turbo Dodge Caravan racing at Mission Raceway, Aug 5/2011
Fully loaded van with a/c, interior, full Exhaust and auto, 3620 lbs with me in it, GT35R turbo, 2.5L 4 cylinder with a TIII 16 valve DOHC head.
Just got it running with a newly ported head, tri flo cams and header. First time out, lots of tuning and playing, couldn't build Boost at the line. Advanced cams another 4 deg's, total of 8, more tuning, much better at building Boost, 14.3@94, 18psi.
2011 Dodge Grand Caravan Crew Start Up, Engine, Test Drive and In Depth Review
In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan
Crew. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of
this van while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique
styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details
of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough
tour/review of this van designed to give others a greater overall
appreciation of the vehicle.
The Junkyard runs 11.99@117 on a 140hp $90 Dodge Caravan motor from the junkyard. First pass.
Add turbo system to a motor that makes
140hp at the crankshaft. E85 fuel. PT6765 turbo. 16 pounds of Boost.
stock heads, stock cams, stock headgasket, stock shortblock, stock
naturally aspirated ECU. No tune. Rising Rate regulator for fuel and
Car was finished the night before racing and the junkyard water pump locked
up on the freeway and had to be changed in the Home Depot Parking lot so we
could make it to the race track. Got booted because the junk motor had a
camshaft seal oil leak. Instead of fixing the oil leak. I built an oil
catch pan (required for 11 second cars at our track in the next race season
anyways) so i would not have to repair the oil leak. I was not going to
spend money fixing this cheap junk motor. Great Depression Racing
dodge caravan noisy steering DIY fix
The 3rd and 4rth generation dodge caravans Are notorious for developing
loud and hard power steering. Most people think that it is either the pump
or the rack but it is probably just the screen built into the power
steering reservoir. Dodge uses inferior hoses that start to degrade after
about 50,000 miles and that material plugs the screen causing the pump to
starve for fluid.
Your best bet is to change the reservoir and hoses but this little fix
should get you through another 50,000 miles or so.
Forced Induction - Supercharger vs. Turbo Charger
This video was made to describe in moderate detail the differences between
Superchargers and turbo Chargers, as well as describing the
components, advantages, and disadvantages to each. Complementing the
speaking track is a slideshow of related pictures and videos. I hope this
video helps some of you curious up and coming mechanics to better
understand methods of forced induction. Please comment maturely, and
1989 Dodge Turbo Caravan beats a Viper at the Mission street legals, Sep16/11
Fully loaded van with a/c, interior, full Exhaust and auto, 3700 lbs with me in it, GT35R
turbo, 2.5L 4 cylinder with a TIII 16
valve DOHC head.
Playing at the Street Legals, just fixed the trans, no tuning, so trying to
tune tonight. Ran a 14.0@96 mph.
Viper guy was NOT happy, almost got to race him again but he dodged the
bullet. Later on, wouldn't even look at my direction, lol.
