NZV8TV Ep13 - 1950 customised Studebaker, Central Muscle Cars, Chevy Camaro - part 2

More at http://www.v8.co.nz/tv. Chances are its the most customised car you will ever see on our roads. While registered as a 1950 Studebaker, the reality is there are parts off Studebakers of many different ages that have been formed together to create the ultimate delivery. This is one feature car you wont want to miss. Plus, interviews with young racers Shanelle Dobson, Scotty Miller and Goof Sherwin, and we went out to Pukekohe with one of the best presented Central Muscle Cars; Glenn Alinghams big block Camaro. Unfortunately, it wasnt looking so good by the time it got back home.

Studebakers at 2009 Daytona Turkey Run Part 1
Part 1 of 2 showing the Studebakers parked in our assigned club parking area at the Turkey Run held at the Daytona International Speedway over the Thanksgiving Weekend in November 2009. The Studebaker Ladies-Emily from the South GA Chapter; Betty from the SC Palmetto Chapter; Linda from Myers Studebaker; Orva and Edith from the North Central FL Chapter, SDC made all the arrangements and provided Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. Leftovers and more food was brought in on each succeeding day. Spaces for 75 cars were reserved and we filled most of them each day. Our two 1956 Golden Hawks made the combined 180 miles without incident. Chilly mornings turned into beautiful afternoons in the Sunshine State.

Studebakers at the 2011 Daytona Turkey Run
Studebakers gather at the 38th Annual Turkey Run on Thanksgiving weekend November 24-27, 2011. The five Studebaker Ladies set everything up, including reserving the area and providing a complete Thanksgiving dinner. I had to hold the camera close to my mouth so the microphone could pick up my voice. That made it sometimes hard to see what I was recording. Consequently, later in the video, I got some great shots of my car's steering wheel and dashboard.

Brenda's Studebaker burns it up!
OK in most sports men and women compete separately, segregated. But in motor sports that's not the case, two cars, two drivers face off and may the best person win. But there is more to racing than just competing. This is Brenda in her Studebaker. She's a trophy winner with her Model-T.

1956 Studebaker Golden Hawk Jet Streak Road Test
Take a test drive with me in a 1956 Studebaker Golden Hawk with the Jet Streak engine option that was contemplated, but never offered by the factory. I was reluctant to make this because at the time I was riding on 22 year old radial tires that made a severe thump the faster I went. A month later I replaced the tires. When I took off the front passenger side tire, I noticed a split of about 18", right down the tread.

CHECK OUT THIS BULLET NOSED 1950 STUDEBAKER STARLIGHT COUPE
What you see here in this video is an extraordinary yet controversial design by Bob Bourke. Although the Studebaker Starlight Coupe was produced in 1949, that year critics were saying it looked like it was the same, coming or going. So, a major facelift took place for the model year of 1950. The major facelift design was the bullet nose that is capped by an airplane theme jet intake. The airplane theme mimicks the famous 1949 Ford's grille. The most outstanding feature of the Starlight Coupe beside the bullet nose is the curved five piece rear window which was an outstanding glass production feat in 1950. Note the sunvisor mounted over the front windshield. This coupe body was mounted on a 120 inch wheelbase and had power from an engine that produced 102 bhp. An improvement for all 1950 models was the replacement of archaic single transverse leaf suspension with front coil springs. If you ordered an automatic transmission for your Stude it had the "hill holder" feature, a feature developed by Studebaker in the 1930's. Rivaling the Big Three automakers in price, a Starlight Coupe was priced around $1,400. Studebaker broke sales records this year by selling over 320,000 cars - quite a feat for an independent car manufacturer. Though the design of this car was different, if you look at this car's design objectively, I think you will agree that this car doesn't look that bad at all.
