This is one feature car you wont want to miss. Plus, interviews with young racers Shanelle Dobson, Scotty Miller and Goof Sherwin, and we went out to Pukekohe with one of the best presented Central Muscle Cars; Glenn Alinghams big block Camaro. Unfortunately, it wasnt looking so good by the time it got back home.
Studebakers at the 2011 Daytona Turkey Run
Studebakers gather at the 38th Annual Turkey Run on Thanksgiving weekend
November 24-27, 2011. The five Studebaker Ladies set everything up,
including reserving the area and providing a complete Thanksgiving dinner.
I had to hold the camera close to my mouth so the microphone could pick up
my voice. That made it sometimes hard to see what I was recording.
Consequently, later in the video, I got some great shots of my car's
steering wheel and dashboard.

Studebakers at 2009 Daytona Turkey Run Part 1
Part 1 of 2 showing the Studebakers parked in our assigned club parking
area at the Turkey Run held at the Daytona International Speedway over the
Thanksgiving Weekend in November 2009. The Studebaker Ladies-Emily from
the South GA Chapter; Betty from the SC Palmetto Chapter; Linda from Myers
Studebaker; Orva and Edith from the North Central FL Chapter, SDC made all
the arrangements and provided Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. Leftovers
and more food was brought in on each succeeding day. Spaces for 75 cars
were reserved and we filled most of them each day. Our two 1956 Golden
Hawks made the combined 180 miles without incident. Chilly mornings turned
into beautiful afternoons in the Sunshine State.
1961 STUDEBAKER HAWK SPORTS COUPE " SOLD " Drager's International Classic Sales 206-533-9600
The Studebaker had style. 1961 was the last year for the fins. Look at the
front end. Note the separation between fenders and the hood. These cars
were low and sleek. Everywhere I drive this car people stop and ask
questions and give the thumbs up or wave. When is the last time you saw
one? This is one beautiful car. The Studebaker has only 59,000 miles. Check
out the original interior. Note the "Fasten Seat Belts" sign on the
dashboard. The man I bought the Studebaker from had the hood come up while
driving and it promped him to restore the outside. He spent about $15,000
with new paint and chrome. It's beautiful. I have a great book he put
together with all the bills. The engine is a 259 V-8. Automatic
transmission. The Studebaker has Twin Traction rear end or positraction.
Manual steering and brakes. The only thing I had to do to this car was
install a new water pump. I just got this in and I've only had a chance to
drive it about 100 miles. I really like the way it drives. The only change
I would make to this car would be to add radial tires. Old School Garage
has serviced and safety checked it for your driving pleasure. Cond. # 2-.

Abandoned relic runs again
Truck comes to life again after sitting abandoned for decades in the heart
of the Alaskan wilderness. The engine is the rugged Hercules JXD. The truck
was later driven 75 miles back to civilization.

Alaska , God's Country. There are a lot of really good beer drinking
stories about lost relics or abandoned treasures in the massive Alaskan
wilderness. There are stories of lost gold mines and eccentric miners who
vanished or died after burying a cache of gold in the late 1800s or early
1900s that's just waiting for some lucky soul to stumble over. There are
dozens stories of wrecked WWII aircraft and one particularly of a crash
landed and mostly intact Bell P-39 Air Cobra that is said to have belly
landed in eight feet of powdered snow somewhere up around Eureka Summit
during the war.
The locals however are pretty tight lipped concerning these stories and
dont give up their secrets very often , especially to city slickers. Most
of these tales are just that, good stories, and are probably based on a
grain of truth and nothing more but they make good stories and theyre OUR
stories. Myself, Ive always enjoyed hearing the tales and like most folks
find my voice raising with each question that I ask in relation to the
particular subjects where abouts, knowing full well that the guy telling me
the story knows as little as I do. Yet having always been a WWII truck and
aircraft enthusiast its easy to get wound up with each telling of a certain
story. Ad to it the mystique of the Alaskan wilderness and a possible
abandoned gold mine somewhere in the telling and well, its a story worth
repeating and maybe even adding one or two of my own personal details to it
for good measure.
One story that has been around for decades is that of a big game hunting
guide that had a place north of Eureka. The story goes that he had a
Studebaker US6 from WWII that he used to haul supplies from an air field
that is 75 miles out of Eureka. According to the story, the old gentleman
had eventually died and the Studebaker had sat abandoned at the remote
airstrip ever since. The truck's engine had, had water instead of
anti-freeze in it and therefor supposedly froze up with ice and broke the
cylinder head. The truck , it is said, is all there and intact.
To claim this relic would be simple, all a person would have to do is find
a cylinder head for a 1940s Hercules JXD , fly up to the air field that is
75 miles from no where , install the cylinder head and then get a truck
running that has sat deteriorating for 20 years in the Alaskan wilderness ,
have someone fly you gas and beer and then drive a 1945 Studebaker 75 miles
back to civilization. Oh and did I mention that there are no roads and
plenty of grizzly bears too? That really would make a good story. Well
thats just exactly what Robert did. The story of the old truck is true and
I loaned him a Hercules JXD cylinder head in August of 2009. Ray has an
airplane and flew 'Close Air Support' hauling fuel , beer and moral support
from all of us here at home. I think the videos explain the rest.
Oh and if you ask why did they do this? If I have to explain , you wouldnt

Studebaker car commercials aired 1950
These were "local" commercials that aired during a 1950 episode of a
popular-yet-short-lived "local" Los Angeles television series. For some
reason, I can imagine King Kai driving a car like this.
