PONTIAC Catalina (1962 SD421cid dual quad)
These rare cars ran mid 12s from the factory on lousy tires of the day, and
with supertuning would hit 11s. With 0 to 60mph in around 5s from not
getting all the power to the ground thru the tires, these engines had a lot
of top-end acceleration to come back at the end of the track and achieve
1965 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 Convertible Red Eustis112313
When you labor over a restoration for years, and spend real money..this is
what you can end up with! This was no ordinary Catalina..it had the 421
cubic inch engine, four speed, bucket seats, upgraded suspension...a recipe
for Catalina like the GTO was for the LeMans. The pride of ownership shows
through this one!
Big Burnouts: 1964 Pontiac Catalina Safari - /BIG MUSCLE
If you haven't figured it out by now, we love wagons on this show. To some
they're a misunderstood breed, but to those in the know, they're amazing.
Not only were the wagons of yesteryear known for their styling, but their
capacity to haul as much cargo as a modern day pickup. This 1964 Pontiac
Catalina Safari started off life as a Police Wagon, but was transformed by
its owner into the kick-ass, tire-shredding monster you see here. With a
Nelson Racing Engines 468 cid big-block under the hood, some updated
suspension bits and a killer look, this big green machine is
outside-the-box styling at its best.

1961 Pontiac Catalina Convertible..tri-power
This is my Thanksgiving present to you! What a beautiful car...and a
sleeper too if you just assume it's a "normal" Catalina! This is a
tri-power motor, and it has a 4 speed manual transmission too! If we had
only known at the time what a keeper this is...they would have had to make
a lot more of these! I love those 8 lug wheels...Pontiac was ahead of the
curve in supplying beautiful wheels for their cars!

PONTIAC - stock Pontiac Super Duty 421v8/405hp vs stock Chevy 409v8/409hp on DYNO
WATCH THE VID TO SEE HOW CLOSE THEY Dyno TO THEIR FACTORY
405hp/409hp ratings. Growing up.....Pontiac/Oldsmobile old timers/EXPERTS
who taught me most of what I know, often told me Chevy rated their horsepower in a more
optimistic way than say Oldsmobile or Pontiac. I've even heard Pontiac
rated/tested their engines in a 100 degree room, compared to Chevy in a 60
degree room. These Dyno results seem to reflect
that some of what I heard was true. Both of these engines are great, but
the results do seem to show that Pontiac was not rating their horsepower worrying if it
would cause "songs to be written" about their engines .... like the great
song "She's real fine my 409"--(Chevy).
