Nothings more cost effective than being able to do your projects from your own garage. You can even turn this into some extra cash flow, and to start it won't even break your bank balance. Nothing is worse than completing your project and finding six months later you have a blister in the painted surface. With this method, "I know all the rust is gone"
Aluminum Anodizing Motorcycle Parts
Anodizing Aluminum. A short video showing how I anodize aluminum using the Low Current Density (LCD) method. I did not show all the rinsing steps but the parts do have to be rinsed thoroughly between tanks.
65 Mustang Fastback Restoration Project
This is my 1965 Mustang Fastback I rescued from a field rusting away. I finished it around July of 2008 in my back yard garage with no professional assistance at all. It took me about 26 months to complete. It has a 302 Ford motor and an 5 Speed manual transmission. I restored this car to the information on the original data plate on the door that included the body color and interior. The stripe is unique in that I added a darker red to the Poppy Red body color to get a stripe that is a little darker but blends in with the factory color. This car features four wheel disc brakes made from all Ford parts.

Starting the 1909 Blitzen-Benz, UNEDITED, @ Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
The Blitzen-Benz was purpose built to do just one thing, to break speed records (not racing), and it did repeatedly from 1909 through 1911.
(Edited version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga2HtUHzUuw )
Its speed of 228.1km/h (141.73mph) on April 23rd, 1911, driven by Bob Burman at Daytona Beach, stood as a record until 1919. Twice the speed of the fastest airplane, (12 April, 1911, Alfred Leblanc @ 69.442mph/111.801kph in a Blériot Blériot) and even shattering the record speed of 210km/h set by a locomotive in 1903.
This record was not even officially broken in an airplane until 1920!
Of the six originally built, this is one of only two that exist today, and is displayed at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.
While the extended and nuanced effort required to start the Blitzen-Benz on a cool coastal morning can try the patience of some viewers, its historical significance and ground-breaking engineering brilliance still place it amongst the greatest motor-vehicle achievements of all time, and the dozens witnessing this effort felt it was one of the highlights of many great moments at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2011.
Here's a great collection of vintage and modern images of the Blitzen-Benz and other historic speed record contenders:
displacement 21500 cc / 1312.0 in³
bore 185 mm / 7.28 in
stroke 200 mm / 7.87 in

bhp/weight 137.93 bhp per tonne

First Engine Start FW190
FW190A-8 Werknummer 173056 quickly roared to life Sept. 21, 2009 after 8 1/2 years of restoration work on the four major components of 173056: Tail, fuselage, wings and engine. Located at the Baton Rouge Metro Airport at PAI Aero, this restoration is a project of Don and Linda Hansens engineering company. The engine was started but shut down quickly as a precaution due to lack of oil pressure indication - found later to be an incorrect pressure sender. Major Frank Hohmann from Flug-Werk in Gammelsdorf, Germany worked intently for most of September, as did Don Hansen and crew Rusty Gautreaux, Danny Trogé and Stephen Hansen to complete engine rigging. This de-preservation/pre-oiling run was a smoky success, with the 2000HP Ash82T engine starting instantly on the first try after 30 years in storage. The first flight is planned for Summer, 2010.
