How to Rebuild a Turbo - Part 1 of 2
Rebuilding a td05h 16g turbo. This
process can be applied to many journal bearing turbochargers. :) It definitely comes in handy to
know how to do this when you are in this type of hobby.
4/25/12: Small explanation on the balancing of the rotating assembly since
I get so many comments regarding it. This particular turbocharger, td05h, has its rotating assembly
components balanced separately. This means each individual part (compressor
wheel, turbine wheel/shaft) gets balanced separately. This allows for easy
interchangeability of parts in case they need replacing. This is why I am
able to install a td05 20g wheel on this turbo without having to balance the entire
rotating assembly. THIS IS NOT THE CASE FOR ALL turboS OUT THERE. You need to research whether
your specific turbo (if it's not td05h)
was balanced as an assembly or "component balanced" like I explained above.

Was an amazing Friday for the Turd. Went to the track to just have some fun
and never planed to set any records. I did have a running bet with TJ that
I would beat his 9sec CRX due to the fact that he probably could no hook up
on the fresh cold track. I had totally planed on him beating the Turd so I
could pay for his night of racing. Friday the 13th must be good luck since
we ran our 9.6 to TJ's best of a 10.2@148. Was only $20 on the line.
11 second Holset hx40 1g dsm
July, 17 2009 Rmr Midnight drags.
This is My 1g Dsm running an 11.95 @ 116 against a low 11 second duramax.
Watch the right side of the screen when I miss 4th. Car was at 23 psi e85
fuel pressure 55psi 1000cc, dsmlink v2, holset hx-40 with bullseye t3 .70
a/r housing, hks 272's act2600 3 inch vband turboback, tial 38.
Mostly stock tune, it was hitting 112% duty cycle at about 50 lb/min. Had a
Boost leak out the throttle body
shaft seals blah blah.
1g FWD dsm HX40
made 459.7HP 378.4 tq, @ 25 psi Boost....
6 bolt w/ coated JE's and Eagle rods, ported head w/ Ferrea +1mm valves,
Kiggly springs and retainers, Kiggly HLA regulator, Fidanza cam gears,
Tial 38mm gate, Tial 50mm BOV, FIC Hi z 1680's, twin intank 255's, 3" turbo back Exhaust, ETS front mount, Jakcal SD, AEM 5 bar
Stock cams and intake manifold!!
