2011 Subaru Forester 2.5X Premium AWD PZEV Startup & In-Depth Tour
I brought my 2011 Chevy Volt in for service on March 7th, and this is the
loaner vehicle I received, a 2011 Subaru Forester 2.5X Premium. It had 490
original miles on it upon pickup and I have had it for 2 weeks so far. I
love the way it drives and handles, very nimble and easy to manuevar. I
love Sport mode and manual shifting, just makes it much more fun to drive
this Forester. And for a 2.5 liter 4cyl, it is pretty quick, especially in
sport or manual mode. Heated cloths seats were a surprise, I wasn't
expecting heated seats, and the controls are kinda in a hard to reach spot
especially if you have the sliding armrest all the way forward, and the
huge sunroof was even a bigger surprise, but it does create a whole lot of
wind noise when fully opened. Gauges light up very nice and bright, car has
daytime running lights which are always on, unless you either turn on your
headlights or pull up the emergency brake. Middle person seatbelt blocks
your rear view vision and is annoying to keep looking at the seat belt
hanging from the ceiling every time you look in your rearview mirror, and
the cup holder are built into the middle of the back seat, so if 3 people
were sitting in the back, you can say goodbye to your cupholders. Seats
were very comfortable, full power driver's seat and power lumber was also a
big surprise, my Jeep or my Volt doesn't even have that. Fuel economy isnt
the greatest, some people tell me because it is new and has to break in,
so I don't know. Let's just say I can't wait to get my Volt back, I am
happy I got to drive a Subaru and experience it, and I would probably
consider owning one in the future.

Crash test dummies representing an average-sized adult

secured with seat belts. The side crash rating represents an
intersection-type collision by having a 3,015-pound barrier

Roadfly.com - 2011 Subaru Forester Review & Test Drive
The 2011 Subaru Forester, as reviewed by our host Emme Hall, retains much
of 2010's model's simplistic looks and drivetrain, save a few key
For 2011, the Forester has an upgraded engine that Boosts key areas in horsepower, torque, and gas
mileage. The new engine is a 2.5 liter 4-banger that gets 170 horsepower and 174 pound
feet of torque, making gas mileage 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the
highway. You can also choose to get a different trim with a turbocharged version of this engine, which will
produce roughly 50 more horses and pound-feet. And all of these
transmissions can come in either manual or automatic.
And of course, the Forester without question gets Subaru's infamous
all-wheel drive, letting the Forester hit the trails with ease. Handles are
smooth and precise thanks to the AWD, and performs with aplomb. Not to
mention its awesome 8.7 inches of ground clearance!
Inside and out, the Subaru is functional but not stylish. Its form won't
turn any heads, but what it lacks in aesthetics it more than makes up in
practicality and user-friendliness. The space inside this crossover is
roomier than one would expect, and the standard amenities are passable;
trip computer, bluetooth & iPod integration, panoramic sunroof. As you
ascend the trim levels, amenities start piling up, the more expensive trims
feature rearview cameras, portable TomTom navigation screen, and more.
All in all, the Forester is a pleasant ride and definitely capable of
holding its own in the crowded crossover SUV category, thanks to great fuel
economy, a great sticker price, and fun, precise handling. All told, the
Forester starts at $23,495, with our test car coming in at $26,384.
