New Mazda 6 2013 - Which? first drive
http://whi.ch/mazda62013 The 2013 Mazda 6 is one the most fuel-efficient cars in its class -- and one of the best-looking. Can it tempt buyers from the all-conquering BMW 3 Series?
Mazda's flagship large car is available as a four-door saloon or an estate, called the Tourer. Unlike the old 6, there's no five-door hatchback -- apparently buyers see saloons as more upmarket.
Prices for diesel models start at £21,795 for the 148bhp 2.2-litre saloon, rising to £28,045 for the 173bhp 2.2 Tourer auto in fully-loaded Sport Nav spec.
Petrol versions are significantly cheaper, at £19,595 for the entry-level 143bhp 2.0 saloon and £24,865 for the top-spec 163bhp 2.0 Tourer.

Mazda has given the world a glimpse of the 2014 Mazda6 Wagon ahead of its debut at this year's Paris Motor Show. The slinky five-door will bow in Europe and Japan with a Skyactiv-D 2.2-liter diesel engine in both standard and high-output configurations. Buyers who prefer a gasoline engine can opt for either 2.0-liter or 2.5-liter direct-injection four-cylinders. Mazda hasn't said what we can expect to see in terms of transmission options, but the company has made it clear the 2014 Mazda6 Wagon will make use of a new brake energy regeneration system called i-Eloop.
The new Mazda6 Wagon will show off under the lights of the Paris Motor Show starting on September 27. Public days run from September 29 through October 14. In the interim, you can check out the images above and the brief press release below for more information.

Leverkusen, 05 September 2012. Mazda Motor Corporation will hold the world premiere of the all-new Mazda6 wagon (known as Atenza in Japan) at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The new Mazda6 Sedan, currently making its debut at Moscow Motor Show, will be exhibited alongside the wagon. Both models displayed at the Paris Motor Show will feature Mazda's new SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel engine. Sales of the 2013 Mazda6 will begin in Europe later this year. The 2012 Paris Motor Show begins September 27 and runs through to October 14.
The SKYACTIV-D 2.2 diesel engine is available in either Standard Power or High Power versions. Both engine types comply with Europe's Euro 6 emissions standards. Additionally, the new Mazda6 will also be available with the SKYACTIV-G 2.0 and SKYACTIV-G 2.5 direct injection gasoline engines.
The new Mazda6 is the flagship model for a new generation of Mazda products. It incorporates the very best of Mazda's craftsmanship and technical expertise across all domains, from dynamic performance and design, through to environmental performance and safety. It is the second of Mazda's new generation of products which incorporate both the full range of SKYACTIV technologies and the new KODO -- Soul of Motion design theme. It also features a range of advanced safety technologies and Mazda's unique brake energy regeneration system, i-ELOOP.
The official name of the motor show is Paris Mondial de l'Automobile 2012. Press days are September 27 and 28, and the show will be opened to the public from September 29 to October 14. Mazda will hold its press conference from 12:45 -- 13:00 am on September 27, 2012 (local time).

AutoExpress reports Mazda is already looking at ways to give the company's 2014 Mazda 6 a little more heat. The company isn't throwing out too many details at the moment beyond saying executives are looking at the possibility of creating a spiritual successor to the Mazdaspeed6. While speaking with the publication, Hiroshi Kajiyama, program manager for the Mazda6, admits a performance version has lots of potential, and that such a machine would be helpful for the brand. If a hotter four-door hits the market, it will likely be lighter than its common sibling with around 100 fewer pounds to lug around. It may also bow with a turbocharged version of the currently-available diesel mill.
Meanwhile, Autocar reports the new Mazda6 may spawn a two-door variant as well. Akira Tamatani, Mazda chief designer, said he would love to make such a vehicle, though no solid decision has been made one way or the other. What else does Mazda have planned for its newest model? Developers are sweating over the possible addition of an all-wheel drive system to help the machine better compete in foul-weather markets.

The mid-sized sedan segment is not very exciting even though it is quite competitive. Most vehicles in this category all have the same styling and can get lost in a sea of the mundane. But the 2014 Mazda6 could be the exception. Mazda is a passionate car company looking to make fun automobiles.
The exterior of the Mazda6 has been completely redesigned. Gone is the smiley grille replaced by a much more vertical and pronounced piece. This great new look can be seen on other Mazda vehicles, most notably the CX-5. While most manufacturers are moving to the cab forward design, Mazda has instead gone for a cab rearward look by stretching the sheet metal. The lines on the side seem to keep flowing. This car is not just about form; the new model also uses a lot more high strength steel. Mazda has made a conscious effort to convert the Mazda6 from a regular mid-sized car into a premium car. From the back the simple design looks very upscale, almost like a Lexus ES.
On the inside Mazda has done a lot to compliment the outside. The gauges and instrument panel have all been updated. The 2014 Mazda6 is available in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. The higher the trim level the more standard features you get.
You probably have heard about SKYACTIV technology on many of the new Mazda vehicles. This powerplant has now made its way onto the 2014 Mazda6 making the car more fuel efficient. The engine is a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy is excellent at 26 MPG in the city and 38 MPG on the highway.
The 2014 Mazda6 can satisfy a whole range of automotive shoppers; from those who just need a commuter car to the enthusiast looking for a fun daily driver.
