The slinky five-door will bow in Europe and Japan with a Skyactiv-D 2.2-liter diesel engine in both standard and high-output configurations. Buyers who prefer a gasoline engine can opt for either 2.0-liter or 2.5-liter direct-injection four-cylinders. Mazda hasn't said what we can expect to see in terms of transmission options, but the company has made it clear the 2014 Mazda6 Wagon will make use of a new brake energy regeneration system called i-Eloop. The new Mazda6 Wagon will show off under the lights of the Paris Motor Show starting on September 27. Public days run from September 29 through October 14. Mazda Motor Corporation will hold the world premiere of the all-new Mazda6 wagon (known as Atenza in Japan) at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The new Mazda6 Sedan, currently making its debut at Moscow Motor Show, will be exhibited alongside the wagon. Both models displayed at the Paris Motor Show will feature Mazda's new SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel engine. Sales of the 2013 Mazda6 will begin in Europe later this year. The 2012 Paris Motor Show begins September 27 and runs through to October 14. The SKYACTIV-D 2.2 diesel engine is available in either Standard Power or High Power versions. Both engine types comply with Europe's Euro 6 emissions standards. Additionally, the new Mazda6 will also be available with the SKYACTIV-G 2.0 and SKYACTIV-G 2.5 direct injection gasoline engines. The new Mazda6 is the flagship model for a new generation of Mazda products. It incorporates the very best of Mazda's craftsmanship and technical expertise across all domains, from dynamic performance and design, through to environmental performance and safety. It is the second of Mazda's new generation of products which incorporate both the full range of SKYACTIV technologies and the new KODO -- Soul of Motion design theme. It also features a range of advanced safety technologies and Mazda's unique brake energy regeneration system, i-ELOOP. The official name of the motor show is Paris Mondial de l'Automobile 2012. Press days are September 27 and 28, and the show will be opened to the public from September 29 to October 14. Mazda will hold its press conference from 12:45 -- 13:00 am on September 27, 2012 (local time).

Can Mazda pull off a solid mid-sized sedan after their divorce from the Blue Oval? Joins us as we find out. We got our hands on the 2.5L iGrand Touring version. Since iLoop had not been released officially yet be sure to check back when we get our hands on that extremely mild hybrid system. 2014 brings Mazda's new corporate grille to the Mazda6, and I have to say, it's a beautiful schnoz. I was a little worried the gaping maw would be too large in person, (in pictures it looks enormous) but up-close-and-personal it has to be the second most attractive front end after the Fusion. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but during the week I was unable to find anyone who disagreed with me. So my opinion reigns supreme. I'm worried however, the proportions look perfect on the Mazda6, so what will the Mazda3 be like? Why am I worried? Because if you park the Mazda6 next to a CX-9 or CX-5, the crossovers look more cartoonish than if they park alone. Just like your girlfriend seems pretty until you park her next to Megan Fox. Although the 2014 model looks longer than the outgoing Mazda6, overall length has been cut by about two inches. Adding "visual length" as well as much-needed rear seat room, the wheelbase has been stretched by two inches to 111.4. Mazda's nose may be a notch below the Ford in my style-guide, but out back it's a different story. I find the Fusion's rump to be a little awkward. It's almost as if Ford ran out of time and "hurried" the back end of their family hauler. Not so with the Mazda6 which has a finished look from the "raised eyebrow" tail lamps to the twin chrome Exhausts. Thanks to the best butt in the business, I call the Ford v. Mazda beauty contest a tie. How about the Koreans? I never warmed to the Sonata, but the Optima is aggressive and attractive, just not as emotional as the Mazda6. Thanks to the low sales volume, the Mazda is also a step outside the ordinary, something that attracts me. Something that has confused reporters in the past is Mazda's new transmission. Some describe it as a hybrid between a dual clutch and a traditional automatic, some have even suggested that it can "disable" the torque converter. In addition to the 6-speed manual transmission you can opt for the SkyActiv branded traditional automatic transaxle. Traditional? What about the fancy clutches? Here's what Mazda did. Lock-up torque converters are nothing new, having been introduced in 1949, but in our age of efficiency companies are using them more aggressively. By locking the impeller and turbine (input and output) of the torque converter, you increase efficiency by cutting most of the impelling losses in the torque converter (there are still some because it's still spinning, but it's greatly reduced). Old transmissions only did this in their final gear and relatively infrequently. Modern automatics like GM/Ford's 6-speed transaxle spend about half their time in lock-up and will engage the locking "clutch" in most gears. Mazda's new slushbox is programmed with an aggressive lockup agenda and will lock in every gear. In addition, it spends more time in lockup (80% or more) than a competitive unit on the same driving cycle. The result is a more connected 1:1 relationship between the engine and wheels than you find in a CamFusCord.





2014 MAZDA 6 QUICK TOUR
AutoExpress reports Mazda is already looking at ways to give the company's 2014 Mazda 6 a little more heat. The company isn't throwing out too many details at the moment beyond saying executives are looking at the possibility of creating a spiritual successor to the Mazdaspeed6. While speaking with the publication, Hiroshi Kajiyama, program manager for the Mazda6, admits a performance version has lots of potential, and that such a machine would be helpful for the brand. If a hotter four-door hits the market, it will likely be lighter than its common sibling with around 100 fewer pounds to lug around. It may also bow with a turbocharged version of the currently-available diesel mill. Meanwhile, Autocar reports the new Mazda6 may spawn a two-door variant as well. Akira Tamatani, Mazda chief designer, said he would love to make such a vehicle, though no solid decision has been made one way or the other. What else does Mazda have planned for its newest model? Developers are sweating over the possible addition of an all-wheel drive system to help the machine better compete in foul-weather markets.
